Very likely and if / when it does arrive only 2 shows would be live from the NE studios from Monday to Friday

Breakfast 6am to 10am (6am to 9am for heart London)

Drive time 4pm to 7pm

All other shows Monday to Friday will come from Heart London expect news bulletins which would remain local from the NE studios

So, 6am till 10am will be local breakfast shows. Wonder if it'll be all the local breakfast DJs doing a pre recorded show, or some will have just a solo presenter show instead.

Surprised Stephen and Emma aren't in the morning slot and local stuff isn't in the afternoons (like at Weekends - presuming they could do this on Christmas day?).

One upon a time we had flourishing local radio network. Now we have national commercial radio pretending to be local. pHeart FM, aka Radio Bland.

Even those FM stations which aren't Heart sound like Heart because it's a commercially successful format. The only genuine variety seems to be on digital radio, but that's almost impossible to listen to on the move as most cars aren't equipped to receive it.

How and why did OFCOM allow commercial radio to be transformed into this bland uniformity?

If there was sufficient demand for diverse, eclectic formats the market would provide them.

But there isn't and you only have to look at the likes of Original 106, Saga, Talk 107 and Jazz FM for proof that, outside London, non-mainstream formats just aren't viable for commercial radio. Even mainstream formats are increasingly unviable as independent, stand-alone operations. There just isn't the advertising revenue any more.

Yes, Ofcom could licence a local jazz or hard rock or newstalk station for Norwich or Blackpool or Plymouth. But there'd be no point because it would be impossible to make a profit so no commercial operator would touch it with a barge pole. And whether you like it or not, commercial radio is about making money, not providing a public service for small minorities. Niche formats are now the preserve of internet and community stations.

As much as Heart would like to I don't think a networked breakfast show will happen anytime soon, Ofcom would not allow it.

Hence Heart sticking with JK and Lucy at weekends where they can reach a much wider audience across the entire network.
