Talking of Gold - I see they have Tony Dibbin in there schedule for weekday evenings at the mo - http://www.mygoldmusic.co.uk/schedule.asp - is he doing that show from Cardiff? he is on Bay Radio doing Mornings!

On the subject of Gold and Wales - no mention of the chap (forgotten his name!) that is doing the Wales opt-out in the afternoons

Tony was only doing Bay Breakfast in Wales as holiday cover.

He sounds great on Gold.

Not according to the Bay Radio website!

Bay Radio are delighted to bring Tony home to Wales as the host of the all new Bay Breakfast Show. (they also have a scrolling message at the top saying to tune in to listen to him on breakfast.)

Funny but I don't recall any of the evenings shows getting high praise from the anti-GWR mob when they were on air.

These forums used to be full of moans about evening networking.”

Although people complained about the networking, and they're clever, but annoying attempts to keep the shows sounding local, you cant deny they were better than "The Heart Evening Show".

I used to love Ministry of Sound on a Friday and Saturday night on 2-TEN FM with Howard (Ritchie ?). Was great, Im sure thats what got me into dance music.

Oh and on the south coast 102.3 seems to be running at the same speed as 97.5?

Oh come on, get real...you will hardly hear any difference, same playlist, local ads played out..just new presenters probably saying and being just like any of the former presenters.
What I find strange is that Global have not seen any of the former presenters as worthy enough to have the new regional show and have brought in the Kiss West team.

Was watching The Saturdays 24/7 on ITV2 this afternoon and I must say that Una's dog knows which side it's bread is buttered - the girls were doing an interview on Heart Brekkie with Theako and it did a massive dump on the floor in the studio! - Probably couldn't stand the sight of Theako's gormless face and having to listen to Luther Vandross for the millionth time!!

A revolution is coming and it could be the most exciting thing to happen in British radio for many years.

Potentially it could be as big as 1964.

Stay tuned!

It is a shame that the DJs that were on Heart Devon have now departed the station, especially Matt & Dani and Kevin Kane who I was most familiar with listening to when I have been in Exeter. Won't be the same without them.

I see from the schedule that it will be Matt & Caroline from Kiss 101 (Not Caroline Verdon) on Breakfast, and Emma Scott on Drivetime and Saturday Breakfast.............. and Dave Luck on Sunday Breakfast (and covering weekday Breakfast this week).

Dave Luck is a another excellent DJ (Been on radio in the South West for years) and it is nice to have someone from the old Heart station continuing on Heart, but I find it extremely odd that with the removal of all the other DJs that they have kept him.

I agree it is a shame so many presenters and staff at the stations have lost their jobs, Global don't have a heart.

Hopps and Chapple from Heart North Devon have recorded a goodbye show on the online radio station Network North Devon, the special show will be on air on Monday.

Good to see TV news covering this.

The Heart supporters would rather it wasn't mentioned & just keep repeating the Global approved lines of "it doesn't matter", "no-one will notice" etc. Interesting that ITV found a business that has cancelled his adverts because of it all.

I'm sure there are more.

If the information is all out there & everyone knows that Heart isn't local at all for most of the day, people can make an informed choice as to whether they listen or not, based on if they want local or quasi-national. It's the "pretending" it's still local i hate, not only from Global, but from other groups as well.

The supporters & Global say "it doesn't matter", but they seem afraid of admitting to listeners on air where the show is actually originating from.

Yes, of course that's the ITV Westcountry that last February closed its 4 sub regional services, and its main studio centre near Plymouth, and now presents and produces the entire programme from Bristol.

Of course, but that is totally irrelevant.

Which it already admitted to in the report. I don't quite see what point you are trying to raise?

FWIW, I am no longer listening to Heart. Didn't have it on much to start with anyway, so no major loss. If I want my radio station to come from London, that's what Radio's 1-5 do. And do very well.

NOT THE POINT!

Look what they did to Gold. OFCOM bent over and relaxed AM broadcasting rules over local content. In a heartbeat (no pun intended) all local Gold content was gone.

It won't stop there. I'll bet any money in a few years time they'll be pushing to have a Heart South West, merging Devon, Somerset and Bristol into a bigger "SuperStation", just as soon as OFCOM allow.

Oh sod it, why don't they just stick Jamie Theakston on in the mornings and have rid? No-one will notice obviously.

Yes, that is the plan....although i think it will be sooner & bigger that that.

I'd bet that in 18 months the big push will be on to close the lot & just have a national heart with no local shows

The original Gold stations like GEM Am & Xtra AM were wrecked by the groups the first time they were allowed to run riot by the Radio Authority

Interesting listening back to a couple of shows in Devon on Friday, in Exeter Matt and Dani mentioned it almost every link that they were going and Hopps & Chapple were almost in tears by the end of their show, in stark contrast Hamish & Maxine (Plymouth) mentioned it once at 9.50 and promoted the new Heart breakfast by name and Emma Scott starting at 4.

...and very good you looked, too! One of the real problems highlighted by Seth's piece was the small matter of start up and running costs, because the topography of North Devon in order to maximise potential advertising revenue and such station will need to have an aerial site, and a transmitter capable of serving Barnstaple, Bideford and at a push Torrington as well as the valley up to Ilfracombe. With start up costs, premises, a low wage economy and an uncertain future for not only some of the industry in the area, as well as the doubts about future of RNB Chivenor, I can't help but wonder whether the same sort of entrepreneurial optimism that led to and sustained Lantern FM in its early days is still out there waiting to be tapped.
I do wish all the interested parties well, and there's no deliberate attempt to rain on your parade, it's just that I really do doubt whether another commercial station is viable in the area, especially given the amount of advertising that. for example Exeter FM is managing to draw in from a somewhat more prosperous area 'down south'

Oh, in that case I take back my point. I can't open the Westcountry TV report for some reason so I didn't see the mention, so good for them for pointing out their own very similar rationalisation.
