Stand by real soon for a big announcement you will soon have 80s 24/7 if you wish!

On all Heart stations? I thought at first it was just at the weekend, but it definitely said last week on Heart Yorkshire that it was on Friday morning.

When its cut like that why do people continue to listen to such cheap and tacky radio.

Oh yeah, shocking radio(!). Imagine a radio station having the audacity to cut a song that barely scrapes past the four minute mark anyway - and that starts repeating itself from about 3:30 onwards - down to under four minutes. Somebody call the police!

Cheap, tacky radio would be leaving the song to repeat to fade, having a poor segue or dead air for a moment or two and clamouring into a new song. I know Heart's tight formatting isn't everybody's cup of tea, but it is slick and professional-sounding, and I really don't think "tacky" or "cheap" are the adjectives I would use to describe it.

No, you're misunderstanding other posters' points about Real's music scheduling. They felt that there were off-target or off-brand songs in the mix, often positioned next to more appropriate songs or songs which would appeal to a totally different audience. In their opinion, this underlined a lack of focus in the station's music policy and a confusion over its target audience. It was this - rather than a clash of tempos or genres - that they found jarring.

Both of the songs to which you refer are totally on-brand for Heart and perfect for its target audience, so there's no problem at all with that scheduling.

The music on Real was much better than hearing the constant repeats on Heart and Smooth. Each to his own.

Totally agree. It's partly down to the production that was used to seperate the songs too. Stick in a sweeper that puts a clear divide between the songs or a link and there is no issue at all.

Hitmusic is very enthusiastic about Heart but doesn't fully understand the scheduling side of it.

Boring. No doubt a max of 300 songs on repeat 24/7 what a waste of DAB space assuming it goes on DAB.

How patronising. I work in radio so understand somewhat. The only way those 2 songs could be separated is by an ad break, nothing else! However my point was that How long will I love you into return of the mac wasn't the best of songs together. I am pretty sure this was an error and slipped thru the net. It's was an awful clash and killed the moment. SP hasn't commented yet but I will await his correction, if I'm wrong!

The Digital 1 slot is for "70s, 80s and early 90s" - that's what Ofcom have approved.

If they want to launch an 80s station online that's a different matter.

We already have Absolute 80's on DAB we do not need a repetitive Global 80's station as well. Listener choice please.

It is weird how Heart has less unique tracks than Absolute 80's (if the info I read was correct).. A gap that widens in daytime hours.

So dread to imagine a Heart 80's (or Heart Extra, Heart Gold etc).

Will be completely different to Heart. Will have much wider playlist as will be a sister station to the flagship.

Indeed thats what I was thinking. Global do radio well it's just such a shame they don't widen the playlists on their stations. That's my only gripe with them.

You seem pretty sure of that, I would not be betting on it.

Heart 80s will be likely to launch on the Ex Heart UK stations that were there before the launch of the local Hearts:

Real Radio-> Heart
Heart UK-> Heart 80s

Very unlikely as Heart 80s doesn't actually exist.

I think you are alone in thinking that fella. Nothing sloppy or mood destroying about How long will I love you into Return of the Mac. Perfectly acceptable.

Ok I stand corrected. But in my opinion when I was listening, for me it sure did spoil the moment. Maybe I was deep into Ellie's track and then BAM into a 90s classic. Thought you was on annual leave as you have been very quiet

Wasn't Real turning over its 'A' list faster than Heart was at one point? Perhaps someone who has monitored both brands can shed some light.
