Has anyone with the htk 215 been able to upgrade the speaker leads? Had a look at the plugs and was wondering if it was possible

Thanks in advance

I read in one of the many HTK-215 posts that somebody had replaced them by going to a specialist shop and giving them the old ones and getting them modded. I would be interested in upgrading mine too so if you find any info post it!

Find yourself one of these small jobbing tv shops ask them to solder it, if you don't have an iron it means you will need to practice before letting yourself loose on your new kit, i am an engineer of over ten years experience and I still hate making up leads, if you get it wrong and there is a short inside the plug when you have finished you will blow the output stage of you new tv, it won't be covered by the warranty, could you not just buy extended leads, are they not just phono connections??

The speaker cables do not have phono plugs. The ends which are connected to the amp are integrated into colour coded plugs so it makes it easy to set up, getting the right speaker cable into the right input. Plus there is not risk of a wire escaping and causing a short. However, it makes it impossible to upgrade your speaker cables easily because they need these special plugs at the end. I would imagine Sony would sell replacement cables but I have not looked into that yet. I am happy with the sound produced by speaker cables supplied with the amp.

A I said a gimmick to get dough out of your pocket, if you want my honest advice go to a jobbing tv shop and ask them to extend the cables by cutting them in half solder phono plug/ socket combinations onto each end of the wires such that if you don't need the extension you can join em back up again, then you can buy an inexpensive phono extension lead, best thought I can come up with to allow you retain the flexibility of your original system.
Good luck
Simes
