FM Transmitter For MP3 Player, Recommendations Please
Resonance

I'm after an FM transmitter so I can use an MP3 player with the car radio.

What's the best one to get? Are there any that will transmit on 87.5-88Mhz as I know there are no stations below 88Mhz for a long way from here.

Recommendations greatly received.

Many thanks.

I bought one of these and it's very good. It'll easily do 20 metres. Maybe more but that's as far as I have tested it.

There's loads of others on that site too. It ships from Hong Kong so delivery (whilst free) isn't quick but it's very cheap.

The ones you buy over here are very weak and very expensive.

It'll do the frequencies you mention (they all should) but don't worry about which one you use as they will over ride any station on that frequency.

I'd agree with the above recommendation but at that price I would get two or three as the quality control is hopeless so you have a good chance of getting a faulty unit. If you use a 1 metre audio extension lead which acts as an aerial it should go up to about 50 metres and give perfect in car reception.

I use this but they seem to be out of stock now. http://www.techfocus.co.uk/iTrip-FM-...ters/TFM01.htm

I bought a Kensington one about 18 months ago, and used it for a couple of trips north; then put it in a drawer. There were three problems with it:

1. Living in south london, it was difficult to find an empty channel.

2. On the move, local radio stations could swamp your own signal.

3. The "traffic information" facility on the radio doesn't work. So far as I can see it's only available when you're tuned to stations with RDS, which obviously your FM transmitter isn't.

I've since changed my car, and can now use CDs with mp3 or wma files (about 150 tracks), a memory stick (about 350 tracks to 2GB ) or plug in an mp3 player via an audio lead. The latter two are classed as "AUX", so I still get traffic information.

For a cheaper solution, is it possible for you to change your radio to one with mp3 player audio lead input?

Any transmitter you buy in this country will be very weak.

The one I have is foreign so it is far stronger so it wont give you any of the problems JSmith mentions as it'll block out any station on that frequency within it's broadcast range.

I use mine in work. We can only pick up FM so I connect a DAB to the transmitter and can then broadcast the footie to every radio in the room (a very large room).

It wont solve the RDS problem but then I have never cared about traffic info as I live in Wales and we've only got 1 main road.
