Hi All,
Just upgraded my Nokia 6210 to a Samsung P400 (Ex O2 but unlocked). Stuck in my Virgin sim card and everything was alright...until I tried to access WAP.
Double checked all my settings OK - all as stated by Virgin.
But all I get is "No response from network".
I tried an old O2 sim card with the O2 settings and it worked 1st time, so I know the phone is OK.
Tried my wifes A800 (originally from orange but unlocked) who is also with Virgin and couldn`t get through on that either.

Phoned Virgin but just went through the phone settings which were all correct.

Any ideas? Or am I stuck with a Wap phone with no Wap (if you know what I mean!!)

Cheers.

Thanks for replying. I`ve just tried "clear the cache" but it`s just the same I`m afraid.
It`s weird how it`s on both phones.. I`ve tried them in different locations so it`s nothing to do with where I`m operating them from.
Strange, very strange.

Cheers

virgin dont have GRPS enabled yet, so that may be the problem. you have to use GSM wap rather than GPRS. Virgin should be enabling GPRS very soon though.

Yeah, I`ve got GSM wap enabled already. Maybe when GPRS is up and running I`ll get this damned thing working!!!

When i spoke to Virgin on Friday night they said that GPRS and Picture messaging were due to be "switched on" next week!!??

Cheers

I am getting same thing on Virgin too - got new phone and thought it was that - but turns out it happens on old phone too.

When you try calling the WAP number (voice call) it says calls to this number are barred

Hopefully this is some sign of them getting GPRS and MMS up and running

Looks like we have more in common than just our Surnames!!!!

I`ve also tried calling the WAP using normal voice and also get "call barred". The customer services guy I talked to said this was normal.

Was your new phone a Virgin branded one or was it from another network and unlocked??? Both my Samsung phones have come from other networks (Orange and O2)

Cheers,

Is it a message on screen saying it is barred? or a women speaking saying 'calls to this number are barred' ?

Just tried this on my Samsung P400, got the info sent to my phone but still no joy.
Try to access WAP and almost straight away the phone displays "No response from network".

Cheers for the link though!

The thing is, they can`t even get the WAP service working properly, how will the GPRS and MMS service ever expect to work?!

GSM WAP on virgin is woking fine. There is a downloadable PDF file on the website that tells you all the settings that you'll need. I think that WAP is probably programmed into the phones with Virgin rather than stored on the SIM card like some other telcos, as I too had this exact same problem about three weeks ago when I purchased my new phone.

I`m sure the majority of Virgin WAP users are having no problems, but I find it frustrating that even after speaking to customer services I still can`t get my phone to access.
I consider myself to be pretty tech-savy so I don`t consider it to be user error. I was successfully using Virgin Wap on my old Nokia 6210 (Ex O2 unlocked) so why won`t it work on either of the Samsungs we have???
I`ve checked the settings in the phone over and over again and used the phone in several locations across the city.
Looks like I`ll have to carry my PDA around and use the infrared link to check my emails on the go.

Cheers,

I`ve just been on the phone again to Virgin Technical support and they have advised me that there is an issue with some postcodes in the South West.
The WAP service on Virgin has had problems in the PL* region for 2 weeks now and he has raised another ticket for T-Mobile to go and get it sorted!

Alex - This may well be the cause of your problems too as I see you are in Exeter.

Is there anyone in Plymouth and the surrounding areas who can access Virgin/T-Mobile WAP?? - just curious

If you are wondering about whether or not to email virgin and ask about MMS and GPRS - dont bother Ive already done it and they sent this reply.

'The great news is that we're hoping to launch our picture messaging service in the next few months. Keep a close eye on our website, and as soon as there's news of any kind, we'll post it on there. Or better still, register your details with our team online at www.virginmobile.com or by phone on 789 and you could be one of the first to know! If you're already registered with us, you won't need to do a thing.

Kind regards,
