HI
Am finally getting rid of my old LG Renoir and don't know whether to go for Dell Streak, Galaxy S or HTC Desire. I mostly text and take photos but am really looking forward to using internet on phone as the Renoir was impossible, it was worse than dial up!!
Any advice is most welcome.
Thanx in advance

The Streak is massive and an old operating system, can't comment on the Galaxy S but I've got the Desire and it's superb for texting, photos etc.
Can't fault it really and I'm glad I got it.

Funny that, I too was upgrading my LG Renoir and I went for the Galaxy S. Only had it since Saturday so I'm still playing with stuff on it. Fantastic screen and the touch is very responsive after I'd seen comments saying otherwise. Very pleased so far.

You won't want the Galaxy S for photos, it doesn't have a flash.

I wasn't aware of that... that's a serious flaw for people who want to take snaps at night.

Mind you, although the Desire has a flash, it is hardly capable of night shots. I'd say the flash has a range of 1-1.5m tops. I'm really happy with the daylight capabilities of it though, and have become obsessed with geotagging the photos (and I can't believe that SLR cameras don't come with this...).

Depending on your monthly allowance, you may want to consider:

- A data traffic monitor (such as NetCounter) which you can tell to automatically reset at the end of your billing period

- Use wifi whenever you're at home (and you can stick a switch on your desktop to make this easier).

I have a miserly 200Mb limit (then bandwidth is capped to 64Kb), and when I first got the phone I absolutely hammered with mapping, with installing all the apps, etc etc. Then I had to endure half a month (during the World Cup!!) of slow access... painful times, but they're now behind me

It's great especially if you use things like Twitter.

On a premium phone it's a strange omission, it must put people off.

The streak OS will be updated and has the system requirements to run android 3.0 gingerbread when it is released so i wouldn't rule it out based on that, it is large but for texting, photos, sat nav and internet use never had any problems with mine, also the screen size means i've not been on any websites yet i have to scroll left/right or zoom to read anything, it has a very responsive touchscreen and on wifi isn't any slower loading webpages than my laptop.

I have a Desire and absolutely love it. It was a bit of a leap from my last phone which was an LG Viewty, but once you are used to it, the ease that everything works is very impressive. I've found the camera quite good. The zoom is a bit iffy tho!

The reason I was tempted by the Streak was that I found a tariff with unlimited data. Can't find that for the Desire unfotunately. But I don't want a phone with dated software

If the update is over the air (a lot are) then it's just a case of agreeing to the update and letting it get on with it.

I've taken some fantastic shots at night using my HTC Desire, just set the ISO to 800 and the flash in my opinion is good for upto 6 to 8 feet, I use my when out in clubs and pubs and upload to facebook etc there and then no problems.

I bought my wife a Sony Eric phone and they are meant to have good cameras on them, but after a week i took it back because the night shots were so poor and got her a HTC Wildfire instead (same camera as Desire) and she is over the moon with it..

As for texting, the bog standard txt app is ok, but i would install chompsms straight away (free ad version and £2.95 no ad version) with popups and repeats etc etc its the dogs..!!
