I have finally done this (and pm'ed it to
vf but thought I'd inflict it on y'all too)
Clips:
(in chronological order as this is how I thought of them. I wanted scenes that covered their changing relationship and also that were a snapshot of their emotions, their relationship, their chemisty, their love.)
1. Okra dicing/MQ fight/Fridge talk - this scene encapsulates so much of their relationship; the chemistry, Syed's jealousy, Christian's teasing. And they talk! A proper conversation that covers the past and hints at the future, that covers religion, sexuality, duty, responsibility. What's more this scene contains some of the most quotable lines ever......
2. Superman - The moment that encapsulates the way that the relationship has become so much more for both men. Syed is acting entirely out of love for Christian, tough love in not just doing what is easier in order to make Christian temporarily happy, but doing his best to make him happy in the long run. That's love. And the fact that he adores him, looks up to him like no-one else, is made so apparent, not only with his words but also with the way he looks at him. Christian's slightly surprised reaction showing how much this means to him. No cringing from me, I think it's beautiful.
3. Dirty alley - Yes I'm shallow. But I needed a scene that shows how much they
need each other, how they can't stay away. And how could you do better than the scene where as Marc says, they can't keep their hands off each other! The awkward conversation before where are saying one thing but meaning another, until Christian breaks the deadlock. This has to be one of the most sexual scenes, the dragging, the chests heaving.....it's no wonder that the lighting is so dark, if we could see it all, our TVs woulld have exploded from the hotness. There is the utter desperation and the gorgeousness of just giving in to each other. I love this scene even more after the lines "feel like I can't breath unless I touch him", as that is pretty apparent here.
4. Forehead kiss - close call between this and cafe talk but this wins out. Mostly because the line 'I wish I didn't' hurts me. Forehead kiss hurts me too, but in a less cutting, more soul aching way. The fact that Syed comes running after Christian, the way he pauses right when he sees him, already looking in pain. There is the most beautiful, pained smile on Christian's face when Syed says "it's an Asian thing", which makes me just want to cry. This scene is pure love, and pure tragedy. To see two people who love each other and who know that they are loved by the other do what they think is the right thing. A further reason why I have to choose this over the cafe scene is because of 'it's okay, it's all okay'. At first Christian doesn't think that he can 'pretend that it's all okay', even though Syed has asked him to. But by the end, he can.
5. BTF/Perfect moment - Like a mirror to both the fridge talk and the cafe talk, the conversation in BTF shows where Syed is now, still trying to reconcile his multiple positions into one coherent identity, but this shows a movement from responsibility and duty to the outside to a recognition that he also has responibility and duty to himself. The desperate lunging kiss also contrasting with one of the most beautiful moments ever. Perfect moment for me truly is perfect. It may cut away too soon, but the look in their eyes, of love, adoration and mutual submission, is enough.
6. Therapy talk - So much is said in actions and looks wth these two, but then you get a scene like this that just lays it on the line, Syed's talk here is so powerful and painfully beautiful because it reinforces what has been shown in a year of looks and actions. Christian says 'I need you' a lot, and Syed has rarely said similar ('I cannot not have you in my life'), but his actions have always shown a similar need and here it is, spoken out loud, a gorgeous summary of exactly how he is being slowly killed inside.
7. I love you...I love you - Well I needed a Christian ILY so I went for a scene with two! Actually I love both of these ILYs, and the scene as a whole, so it was an easy pic. The scene itself is another 'here's where we are now' scene - Syed's jealousy here is a different beast to that in the past. Actually, he shows several different kinds of jealousy throughout: With Sexy Gianfranco the Coffee Man and with 'Marc/Marty' there was a basic sexual jealousy; with James, there was both a sexual jealousy but also a jealousy of their past, of his position in Christian's life, and of the way that they could touch in public when Syed thought that him and Christian never could; with Leyton, there was sexual jealousy too, but more there was the basic jealousy of Christian having someone, anyone. But in this scene, his jealousy is more a fear, coming from low self-belief, a bit of paranoia, but also the logical result in having given everything up to be with Christian. He can't quite believe that he could be loved as much as he is, nor that he deserves happiness. Now, the ILYS, both lovely in different ways: Christian's first ILY is beautiful because of its matter-of-fact nature, he loves Syed so he says it. No fanfares, no thunder rolling, just a simple statement of fact; The second ILY is beautiful because it is so heartfelt, so honest, a response to the slightly incredulous look on Syed's face.
Oh and they are on a bed. Reason enough to be included .
8. ....but I love you for it - And to finish, a Syed ILY and perfectly lit kiss! And another critical scene. Christian shows his unconditional love of Syed, and the lengths to which he will go both for him and also to make their relationship work. The fact that it is such a foolhardy thing adds to it somehow, something which Syed feels too. Syed is taken aback at Christian's words, at the depths of his love that this act has revealed and his response is perfect - a beautiful, loving kiss, and telling him that he loves him for it. Loves him for his love, for his desire to know all if him, not just the bits of him which are easy to understand and love, for his foolhardy but brave actions, loves him for not being perfect and for not pretending to be perfect, but for being human and in love and for being Christian.
And my favourite......btf/perfect moment. I love words (as apparently this post shows

), but nothing trumps unspoken love.
Song:
Amy Winehouse - To Know Him is To Love Him. The song that makes me think of SBM and mot want to kill myself. Unlike either the scene itself or the song itself.
Outfits:
Christian - bed making/widget scene. Why argue with perfection?
Syed - Sofa reading scene, perfect hair, good shirt, sleeves rolled up to show arms. Yummy.
