What's better - AMOLED or SLCD?

HTC has announced that it will be replacing the AMOLED displays on several of its current line of phones with SLCD display technology, manufactured by Sony. The move will affect its top-of-the-line HTC Desire.

It seems that HTC has become the victim of its own success here as the move is down to supplier Samsung being unable to keep up with demand for the AMOLED display.

AMOLED is a bit pants in direct sunlight (experienced this personally), something Super AMOLED fixes. I don't know how good SLCD is for that.

Makes you wonder whether Samsung is having issues getting displays for its own phones - do they get the first pick of the stock?

Well reports say that Samsung who currently produces HTC's AMOLED displays is keen to put AMOLED on the back-burner for the time being, as it wants to heavily push its own Super-AMOLED handsets, like the Galaxy S.
