32" WS CRT Recommendations
I think its time to upgrade my 24" JVC WS & was thinking about a 32inch one. My other kit consists of : Pioneer DVDR5100 Recorder & Telewest Pace Cable box.
Willing to spend a fair amount to get the best set. Any ideas for me? Oh, needs to be Silver to match the rest of the stuff

You want to be looking at Panasonic or Toshiba if you want a decent quality picture.
It might seem daft, but you also might want to think about a 36" TV... you'll be surprised how quickly a 32" looks small! |

Would I be correct in saying that 100Hz is important for Digital? (Cable TV & DVD) but not analogue (terestrial) - so should I be adding this to my list?

Can't see any mention of problems with Panasonic TV in the review I'm reading here.
The TX-32PD30 and 36PD30 seem to get rave reviews. 100Hz seems to be a preference thing. Some people prefer it, others say it looks unnatural. The only TV I've had with 100hz was a 32" Sony set, that looked awful. The 100hz made the digital picture seem noisy compared to the analogue version. If you get a TV with it on, make sure you can switch it off if needed. It's not good for watching sports really, and the Sony one had no option to get go back to 50hz. It went back, and I bought a Toshiba instead! |

I can't remember which model it is off the top of my head. Its the 32" one with surround sound (though I would alawys advice you get a separate surround unit).
I would say that you get a few problems with all widescreen tvs beam limiting where the size/shape changes with the contrast of the picture happens on them all. The best advice I can give you is to go in a shop and look at them for a while, and look around the screen, esp. the edges on different aspect ratios to see if there are and convergence problems. Don't worry if they are a bit wonky down the edge on 4:3, they all are to some degree depending on what is on the screen at any given time. The other big tip I can give you is to buy from Allders if you have one near by. They price match, and the free 5 year guarantee is worth it's weight in gold. Whatever you do, don't buy from Comet online... I bought the Sony w/s from there and they literally rolled it into the house, damaging the filter comb inside in turn causing coloured patches to appear in the corners. |

That's where I would put my money!
![]() I would edge towards Panasonic. And if you have the brass go for the 36"... esp. if you are planning to watch things in 4:3. I personally don't mind the stretched image, though others hate it. A 32" on 4:3 is only comparable to a 25" normal 4:3 set. |

Thanks - Euronics don't seem to have much of a selection. If JL won't pricematch then I'll just get one online

For picture quality and widescreen switching working properly, I would also look at Hitachi TVs.
The sound on them is nothing great, but if you use a HiFi or home cinema, that's OK. |
