Just interested to know what people's top 20 bands, groups and individual artists are.

Don't post anyone obvious (such as The Rolling Stones, Queen, U2 etc) unless you regularly enjoy their music and definitely view them as being in your ideal "top 20".

These do not have to be in any specific order if you wish. I'll start...

Blur
Radiohead
Jay-Z
The Verve
Gorillaz

Common (formerly "Common Sense")
Duran Duran
Simple Minds
Joy Division
Frederic Mercier

Daft Punk
Steely Dan
Isaac Hayes
U2
The Doors

Pete Rock & CL Smooth
9th Wonder
DJ Premier
Gary Numan
Kasabian

It'd be difficult to pick one static 20, but I'll try my best:

Kate Bush (pretty much everything she's ever done I like, even The Red Shoes )
The Smiths
The Cure (nearly everything post-Bloodflowers is quite dire, though)
Cerys Matthews (her and Catatonia were my first love in music and will always hold a special place in my heart)
Catatonia
Kirsty MacColl (underrated, I'll never understand how she managed to pass so many people by)

David Bowie
Stone Roses
Carole King
Cocteau Twins
Fleetwood Mac

Echo and The Bunnymen
R.E.M.
Morrissey
Pink Floyd

Cranberries
Joy Division
Siouxsie and The Banshees (to an extent, the records I like I like a lot but some of it is a bit rubbish I think)
Bjork (same with her, but I see the records I'm not quite into yet not 'rubbish' as such, but more like "I'll give it another listen soon and see if it's grown on me")
Depeche Mode

20 eh? This could be fairly random:

The Pogues
Yazoo
The Jesus and Mary Chain
Frightened Rabbit
The Twilight Singers

Jimmy Eat World
Depeche Mode
Pixies

Sigur Ros

Deus
Mogwai
Minuteman
Explosions in the Sky
Bloc Party

(I've tended only to go for artists who I've liked consistently over a few albums, which generally means they're older/more established.)

This is really tough. I had to cut about fifteen from my list. But (roughly in order) mine are:

1. Girls Aloud
2. Sugababes
3. Pet Shop Boys
4. Annie
5. Frank (they only released one album before splitting, but it was basically the perfect pop album)
6. Alesha Dixon
7. Robyn
8. Alphabeat
9. The Saturdays
10. Rachel Stevens (in my defence Come And Get It was one of the best pop albums of the last decade)
11. Britney Spears
12. Little Boots
13. Gabriella Cilmi
14. Mini Viva
15. M.I.A.
16. Goldfrapp
17. David Guetta
18. Private
19. Margaret Berger
20. Leona Lewis

Should have really put Michael Jackson in my own list, but thought it would be too obvious a choice. However, his contributions to music were huge and will never be forgotten, so he should definitely be on my list.

And yes, a lot of love for Joy Division, rightly so!
