Is any1 else pissed off by the way the likes of Ian Van Dahl can take a song like Elevation by U2 and speed it up and think of it as his own talent?Bloody hell!U2 write the song, pay to make the video, etc etc and then some gobshite with fancy equipment comes along and speeds it up and thinks hes great?Load of bollocks!Speeded up songs always sound shit.Ban this crap now!And as for Atlantic 252 they are the main purveyors and broadcasters of such garbage.Grow up and transmit some talented music why dont you?

Gopher - erm -I think you'll find Ian Van Dahl is a woman actually.
Agree with your general point though (collapses with shock) even though Elevation is U2's worst song ever and deserves to be trashed to bits A mole living in a hole indeed!!! |

I thought Ian Van Dahl was a DJ and that woman was just some bird who he got to do the vocals
Man her parents are cruel if the woman is called Ian

All That You Can Leave Behind is a stunning album -only Elevation and Beautiful Day are weak. Check out Kite - the song Bono dedicated to his dying dad and the new single Walk On - both stunning.
Greatest U2 song ever - A Sort Of Homecoming - from The unforgettable Fire -pure class!!

Theres also a dance re-mix of Coldplays "Don't Panic" by a group called Logo. I know you'll probabaly all disagree with me but I think it sounds excellent compared to coldplays depressing version... Quote:

Ian Van Dahl is neither a man nor a woman - it's a group according to this site which seems to know what it's talking about!

Although you're right, that website does seem to know what it's talking about, I'm pretty sure (unlike Alice Deejay- who are a group) that Ian van Dahl is a woman.

I hate most of the dance music, they either have the same beat from start to finish or they nick a song from someone else!!!
Luckerly dance music isnt doing as well as it was back in 98/99, nu metal has taken over ![]() You cant go anywhere now without seeing a teenager in a hoody and a red cap! |

Bollocks to that. Whilst some dance music (particularly European stuff eg Ian Van Dahl) is a pile of crap there is a lot of great stuff out there and I personally hate all this nu metal.
But everyone likes something different so there's no point arguing.

Its bigger than dance, Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park are huuuuuuuge, Limp are massive though, doesn't a numebr 1 album and single at the same time count for anything? Linkin Park's album is multi platinum and keeps selling more in the UK. Oh and I suppose I imagined Slipknot having a number 1 album a few weeks ago?! Chris wake up to the fact that rock is big at the moment, and dance is dying!!
Hard-Rock still isn't commercial enough to make money which is why there are no rock radio statons. |

No, dance is not dying, it has been big, it still is big and will always be big. However you are right in that rock is the current biggest thing (annoying as it is), but it's all a big merry-go-round in what's in the spotlight be it dance, garage, hip hop or nu metal. It is unlikely that any of them are going to die out however (well apart from garage!).
Another point is that dance music tends to be less chart orientated and more focused on clubs and events (Cream, Gatecrasher, Ministry etc) than releasing CDs although occasionally the odd track does break out into the mainstream, but not so much as when it was in the spotlight. |

Originally posted by Chris E 21 seconds hardly qualifies as dance in my book and DJ Otzi's effort of a song just makes me want to puke to be honest. I don't think One Night Stand is really dance either, although I can't quite remember how it goes. Quality songs off that list - In The End, 2 People and Flawless. I did like Smooth Criminal, but I'm getting a bit bored of it now. I tend to sit on the musical fence, judging songs individually, not by the genre they get put in. It makes me mad when people say that all music except what they like is crap. Like any type of art, it's a matter of personal taste. My definition of good music is this: If at least one person thinks it is good, then it is good! Just be grateful that these days we have plenty of choice of music channels, both TV and radio, to cater for all tastes. I'm old enough to remember when it was not so! |

Best song ? Bad is up there with A Sort of Homecoming from the UF album, but I prefer the earlier stuff for it's rawness and obvious unhindered talent. Any thing from the October album is great. Back on subject, I've felt for a long time that there does seem to be little need for talent nowadays, some dance music is great and put together by peopel with real talent Fat Boy Slim and The Lo Fidelity All Stars are 2 such acts, but like any Genre of music there is also a large amount of dross. |

Wanna take this outside?(j/k) ![]() I like Elevation and its video, its better than some of the cheap videos that you see, DJ Otzi springs to mind. ATYCLB is a great album although i have to admit most of the 'pop' stuff in the 90's was rather dodgy to say the least. IMHO Joshua Tree is the greatest album of all time (and by some coincidence VH1 seem to agree with me ) although ATYCLB comea a close second. How many bands can say they have their own jet, and one with Elevation written all over it

Walk On is much better though - good old fashioned powerful U2 anthem |
