Joe was last week in recording studios in London with Dallas Austin. Today Joe says he has been in Jersey recording for a couple of days. I know nothing about the music industry but could someone please explain what would be the need for a different studio?

I was trying to ask a serious question of the music industry.

The artist moves to the studio where the writers and producers work. He was recording with Dallas who was in London at that time/ is situated there and is now in Jersey with whomever works there.

Seriously I would think twice before asking an important question on these forums. You might , if you are very lucky , get one or two replies worth reading. The rest will be posters falling over themselves to post the wittiest comedown ever.

I picture them salivating when they see a genuine question ripe for their very own brand of corruption.

Don't waste your time. I would look elsewhere.

Not necessarily in Joes case, but some musicians move to different studios because of their legacy, their sound, the technique of the producers or even the coolness factor, it's a bit like choosing your own supermarket.

For example, I want to record myself playing guitar. I could probably just go to my local community studio, or even more local more professional one for a bit more money, but if I could afford, I'd jump at Abbey Road.

It's like that

Albums are made all over the world. Someone using various songwriters and various producers will naturally record all over the place.

Some tracks will have producers recording the track in New York.

Another track will be recorded with a producer in London.

Maybe another in the south of France.

The album could then be mastered in California.

Some artists love workin with the one producer though and so the mixing of, for example, the last Oasis album would be done with the same guy, in the same location (Dave Sardy in LA) with most of the actual recording in Abbey Road (with Dave Sardy).

However with an album of that type it's not unusual for Dave to get in contact with a band member and have them record another part in a studio on the other side of the world and then send that copy to him. They were all mixed by Dave in his own studio though.

In some tracks of some albums the drum track could be recorded in New Zealand, the vocals in London, the guitar in New York and the bass in Dublin.

It all depends.

I'm quite interesting to see what kind of sound Joe is gonna go for? Dallas is quite a good producer too, right? So Simon obviously wants this work out and not a repeat of Leon Jackson lol

Joe is clearly going to be another, erm, what's his name? The one from Scotland who flopped and was dropped?

I don't think Joe will be successful. Nice enough lad but Shayne Ward was talented and also was more appealing to girls/women while still being cool enough for guys to like. Joe ticks none of these boxes. Stacey or Olly should have won in my opinion, although after hearing Ollys song, he might do better having not won!!

Isn't Dallas Austin's forte dance/pop productions?

Not sure if people will be convinced with Joe going down that road...

Then again, there's not really a market for anything else these days. Ballads are out the door, and that's what people expect from him.

Dallas Austin has actually worked on a lot of songs and some of them are really good. He workes more, or used to, in the urban/R&B industry but his sound is more guitar based and he has worked with a range of acts. It's kind of cross-over. He came to my attention when he worked with TLC on a load of their songs.

List of song's Dallas Austin has produced

I wonder what will come of Joe's style. He doesn't seem to fit in with that list unless the label are making him do cliché R&B-pop

On a side note, I always thought it'd be funny if Dallas Austin was from Texas

wow Dallas Austin!! :O he's done some incredible work through his career.

Including collaborations to songs on;Madonna's Bedtime Stories album and Ray Of Light's co-produced The Power Of Goodbye,Gwen Stefani's Love.Angel.Music.Baby,P!nk's Missundaztood,Kelis' Tasty, and (the best songs on) Sugababe's Taller In More Ways album and even Left Outside Alone by Anastacia and They Don't Care About Us by Michael Jackson and some songs by Janet Jackson throughout the 90's.

Those are some big highlights of Dallas' career and each have been MASSIVELY successful hits too! not JUST uptempo but also some deep R&B grooves and ballad work. I think Joe's gonna do the debut of ALL debut's this year! let's wait and see

Thank you for those kind enough to enlighten me a little on the music industry.

I think so look forward to hearing Joe's album and I'm sure he will have a hit. I could just listen and watch him whatever he sang, but I hope they have found him some good songs to propel him back out there and to keep him there.

Dallas is probably Sony musics producers of the moment too because Leona has been working with him (either on stuff for her Echo re-release or her third studio album). Its just like Ryan Tedder and his links with most of the Idol winners (Kelly, Carrie, Jordin etc) and Leona too.
