Third is far to late, NEVER do the third.

2nd if your going for the okay fiorst single, brillant second single (The Staurdays with this is love and up)

But after the first if your bringing out a single in the same quality as poker face or Can't get you out of my head.

Interesting question but I think releasing after the second single is probably the best, depending on the singles released.

Depends katy perry is building great momentum by realeasing 2 singles but some other acts would work better with releasing after the first single like poor mini viva who are now apparenty dropped or agnes who isn't doing too well no either kinda depends on individual artist but usually 2 is good

Or Girls Can't Catch even, they were quite good but dropped before they got to release an album

I think this is actually a very good discussion point.
I would say releasing 2 singles and then an album is probably the best decision, especially as many artists are not achieving huge chart positions with their singles after an album release, as many people already have the album. Also by releasing 2 singles beforehand it gives us the audience a real taster of what is to come from the album.

As a huge Britney fan, I would love it if she released two tracks before her next studio album, as I think it would benifit her hugely.

It all depends.

A lot of acts I like release an album after 1 single. Sometimes after no singles. It depends on their fan base, I imagine.

For example, an already established act may only need to released 1 single in order to get their album to sell. Other non-established acts may need to give more examples of their work and release 1 or 2 more before the album will sell.

There's no definitive answer... it depends.

Never hurt Oasis. That's what bands should be doing. Releasing single after single with 3 or 4 brilliant b sides on them. That's what I call giving fans value for money.

It depends on the artist. If the artist is super popular, like GaGa, Eminem and Beyonce.. after one single is enough. However, if your an up-and-coming artist, second single is probably best.

Nah, i'd probally loose intrest by the third single as i'd probally have bought the single i liked.

And what if a band releases two brillant songs and then a absoulte floater of a song. The album won't sell.

Get the album out quick.

I think the singles need to be incredibly strong like they were for oasis for their first few years. They built up a reputation of the b sides, so people went out and bought the singles for the purpose of hearing these songs that regularly surpassed the single itself in quality. this would come back to bite them in the ass, when Noel lost inspiration in the late 90's. He could have saved the songs but he didn't, respecting the fans.

I think they sold 20m alone in singles.

but that was then and this is now, with downloading in full force, stuff like that is sadly pretty much impossible now.

I would say 2. Doing 3 like Tinchy didn't actually work for him. His album has sold as much to just go Gold and yet in total, he had 4 hit singles that sold more then the album combined.

Sometimes two doesn't sell the album. Paloma, The sats, Pixie are the three examples who released two singles and the album's sales failed to generate. But it wasn't until the 3rd, 4th ect where sales really began to improve leading to platinum certification.

I think for most artists it's best to release their album after two singles.
I think that there are certain artists e.g. Lady GaGa who are able to release an album after just the one single for it to sell well straight away.
