I have heard that the reason for no C4 and C5 HD is because they have to be encrypted because they are on a european transponder and not a uk focused transponder, If Sky moved or were forced to move some of their encrypted channels off the UK only transponder to the european ones we could almost instantly have some more HD channels.

Does anyone else have a problem whereby a scheduled 'series link' record doesn't automatically delete when the series ends?

I think I remember reading that if the next programme is not in the current EPG then after a period these are deleted. Anyone remember what the period is? I was slow posting GaseousClay beat me to it and answered my question. Last edited by REPASSAC : 11-08-2010 at 13:12. Reason: Added GaseousClay comment |

The Foxsat-HDR is an excellent box and has been rock steady since the last software update. It compares very favorably with the various Sky boxes, including Sky HD, I have owned over the years. I have no hesitation recommending it to friends and colleagues.
I would love one last update to sort out the live pause issue. (It doesn't bother me, but I have three technophobes in the house and it catches them out, now and again) |

Wait, does live pause really end when the program ends every time or just when recording that programme? If it's the latter my very old humax single tuner freeview (8000 rings a bell) has the same issue! But it will do live pause infinitvely.

Scrolling back into the recent past would be useful if you could then set a Series Record for a programme just missed. But you can't.

This is only the case if you're recording the current programme.
If you're not recording it then you can be 30mins behind all day long. Not then it's a dealbreaker and I'll be looking for a freeview hd box! |

I would like to be able to set a series link record - from:

A single recorded programme (did not know if I would like it and I did)
The progamme I am currently watching (from memory I don't think I can do this)
Note: the first item should also create the series folder and move the item in to it and change the current position to within that folder.

HUMAX HDR - Auto Standby Problem
My wife has been complaining that the HDR goes into standby every night at the same time. She does see a message to the effect that do you want the box to turn off in 1 min but she never manages to find the remote and press the correct buttons in time. I then turned Auto Standby off (but left Power Saving in Standby on).
She told me it still does it. Today I turned on the HDR at about 16:50 (GMT) to see the news. At 17:00 I received the do you want to turn off in 1 min message which I answered no and the HDR stayed powed up. Why the message? - Strange. Does anyone else have this problem? |

Try Menu/Setiings/Time
Power ON and Power OFF Power Off - --:-- I do see that I can set power off to disable which I have now done. I have previously tried to play with time on/off this to see if I could overcome the power loss problem so possibly I have left something in a strange state but why 17:00 ??? Will post again if it continues to happen. |

I had been hoping the new crop of Freeview HD recorders would give me an option to get away from what for me is a very annoying box and a very annoying company (they appear to have stopped doing anything more for this box, they don't respond to emails, and their representative here will seldom respond to specific issues).
(And I still haven't had any response to these issues via email either.) |

Anyone else notice that a particular forum member is conspicuously absent from this thread?
(And I still haven't had any response to these issues via email either.) We await the forthcoming update. You do tend to be hypercritical however - PVRs are a somewhat recent innovation and much more complex than their predecessor the VCR - If the power issue is solved in the next firmware related I will be well content. |

While it is a single user system I can think of at least six activities / tasks that a PVR needs to be capable of doing concurrently. Now while that is an order of magnitude less than the stuff I used to write and maintain it still needs doing with care.

Off the top of my head:-
1) Monitoring user input; 2) Controlling first recording; 3) Controlling second recording; 4) Controlling playback of a current or third recording; 5) Downloading new EPG info; 6) Timer activity controlling when a new recording is due to fire - though this one is closely coupled to the timer chip of course. |

Only if carefully programmed which, I believe, was the actual point.

All I know is that it does a better job of these tasks than the Sky HD box that I had before. Not to mention consumes much less power in standby.

I would love to have a look at what is going on under the hood to make this box so sluggish at times. |

The more powerful the processor the more power the coder has to screw things up royally.

![]() Actually performance isn't really that high up in my list of complaints, I'm just frustrated with the quality of the software, and the way it fails to utilise all the power available to make this box what could be a truly remarkable machine. |
