Android or Blackberry OS
I am about to upgrade my mobile in the next few weeks and have narrowed my choice down to a Blackberry Pearl 3G or a SonyEricsson X10mini
I could do with some help to decide between the Android and Blackberry OS and the pros and cons of each. I like the idea of Android but many people I know seem to be getting Blackberry Handsets and I was wondering what the fuss is all about?

If a lot of your friends are getting Blackberries, you will be able to make use of Blackberry Messenger which allows group chats which might be useful. I have used both the Android and Blackberry phones and while Android looks good, I found it disappointing and the novelty soon wore off. I have found the Blackberry does what you want a phone to do very well. I never use the HTC Hero I got now and only use the BB.

imo the BB pearl is a bad choice you'd be better off with the Bold.

Since my original post I've decided against the x10mini due to it still being stuck on Android1.6 and after trying one out, it was just too small for practical use. I have since tried the ZTE Racer on 3 which for a so-called "budget" phone is actually quite good for £99 on Pay as you go. It has a resistive touch screen, however i found it much better and more sensitive than the screen on my Nokia5230 and it's also running Android2.1 ![]() So I'm now looking for further opinions of which is better.. Android or Blackberry? I'm also after opinions of the ZTE Racer ...

Android probably has a more varied selection of applications.
The only real reasons to go BlackBerry is for the e-mail (although Android does have push email) and BB Messenger. If you were planning to pay £300 for the Pearl, you may want to pay more than £99 for an Android device. The Racer seems a bit low-end and you may find it lacking once you really get to use it. |

Having had quite a few BB's I admit they are seamless when it comes to email etc. But I now have an Android phone (Nexus One) and it's fantastic in comparison.
Obviously a lot depends on what you want your phone for, but the amount of apps available for the Android is fantastic. |

I have a HTC desire on Android 2.1 - soon to be 2.2 and I am really happy with it!

Android is Brilliant
I've had my ZTE Racer for 3 weeks now and I'm loving Andriod.
Even though I will end up upgrading to a higher spec device in a few months, to it's credit for a budget handset the ZTE Racer with Android is a really good phone for the price (£79-£99 at the 3Store) I find something else it can do every day I made the right choice (well, for me obviously) |

I have recently ditched the ZTE Racer on 3 (initially due to poor signal) in favour of The Android powered Vodafone 845.
This is a much better handset in many ways ... *It's on a decent network *The screen it much more responsive and sharper *Live Wallpapers *35 Homescreens (I'm up to 14 and pushing it )The processing speed is much faster It looks and feels less "cheapo" and has a much more classier apperance If anyone is considering trying Android out with a lower priced handset I would highly recommend a 845 for a good taster of what the platform offers. |

My work mobile is a BB Torch and my personal mobile is a HTC Wildfire so I'm in a good position to compare.
The new Blackerry o/s 6.0 feels very well put together. There are some glitches but it is only the first release build of 6.0. remember that with BB the o/s is designed specifically for the hardware. Android on the HTC is great fun and it has some great features but it just doesn't feel as professional as the BB o/s. Unike BB you also have the vagaries of different manufacturer's hardware to deal with. On the plus side there are a huge number of apps, especially from Google. The BB app market is very limited. Android still feels a little underdeveloped but I'm sure that in 2-3 years time it will be the dominant mobile platform. |

OP - go to the Orange store and get a San Francisco (a orange brand ZTE Blade). droid 2.1 and a 3.5 inch amoled capacitive screen. Only £99 + the compulsory £10 credit and unlock for 99p, but you can get £20 off if you are an existing Orange customer or work for the NHS. You will not be disappointed.
