Response from Technicolor on the DHD4000 EPG

A few days ago I managed to submit a contact form to Thomson via the Technicolor website about the EPG problem.

Today I had a call from a representative of Technicolor. He was very polite and honest, but unfortunately I don't think that anything will be done for our PVR.
He said the problem lay with Inview and their refusal to release their code or transmission to another commercial organisation. Inview may consider releasing it to Freeview (but we know that won't happen as Freeview have washed their hands of the problem - my comment).
Between 2003 and 2005 Thomson sold approx 10,000 units, but still made a loss on the operation due to competition from the Far East, so exited they the market in 2005.
Technicolor discussed the problem internally 3-4 weeks ago, and decided that it would not be commercially viable to come up with an alternative solution for our box. The chap said that he had worked on converting another PVR from propriety code to the Freeview EPG, and that had taken 2 months coding followed by 2 months testing. Therefore to provide a solution for a box they no longer make, and which would not generate any revenue, was not feasible.

So in summary, as I said, the gentleman was very helpful and honest, but that Technicolor would not be able to help us, and they wouldn't be able to offer a trade-in like Sony as they are no longer in this market.
Our only hope would be for Freeview to review their decision not to help.

Fair and honest reply....

As for code, all it needs is the .epg files to be compiled and dumped OA at 3am... (or somebody to make a RF converter to grab, store and dump epg every day at 3am)

As yet, I still haven't had a reply from Ilse Howling of Freeview.

The petition is now up to 1500+ signatures. There's still a fair chance Freeview will step in.

Can I ask where Freeview stated they were washing their hands of the situation?

If they really said this then it doesn't bode well, will p1ss a lot of people off an is a bit of a PR faux pas.

Have a look at the statement on the Freeview website:
http://www.freeview.co.uk/Resolution...gifusion-boxes

I am pretty certain that they had a more recent comment (I seem to recall it was issed on 14th July) which was even more negative, but I cannot locate it yet.
