Looking into buying this machine! Does any one have one? Is it any good? Does the guide plus work with ntl cable or will it only work with Sky. Cheers for any help with this.

You would be better off going for a Panasonic.

I think BexTech was referring to the many reports of failure and poor build quality that has been reported with alot of Philips recorders.

I was going to buy one, esp. because of the EPG, but I read so many horror stories of Philips machines, that I went for the more solid Panansonic.

I am sure he was but I just thought that it would have been good if he had expressed it rather than leaving Browner10 guessing.

Personally I have had no problems with my Philips DVDR75 and would recommend it, I have though obviously not played with the EPG on the 80. It is also worth bearing in mind that Philips are releasing a version of the 80 with a hard drive soon (if it is not already out).

Yes the Panasonic is a better built more reliable machine, plus it uses -R discs which I prefer, and also the time slip function of RAM discs I find very useful too, I am often watching something I recorded eariler whilst still recording something else.

Also I sometime start the recording, do something else for 15mins then start watching the programme whilst it is still recording and skip the adverts.
