A New Friends and Family Mobile Charge from BT
I have just received my quarterly bill from BT and have been stung with a new and additional advance charge of £1.49 per month for friends and family mobile phone usage.
Does anyone know what this charge relates to? By clicking on the information part of the bill it seems that each mobile phone call is capped at 7 pence per minute. Will that be the actual cost of the call or will I have to pay the usual connection charge of about 10 pence, before the call starts? I ressent the "connection charge" so much that I have stopped using my BT phone during the day and in the last quarter my call charges bill was only £2. Is there any way I can get out of paying the mobile phone charge, for a service I won't use?

Im on this and dont see much of a discount on the mobile phones I have phoned. For the BT bill dont show the discounts on mobiles or am I reading the bill wrong.
As you say mobiles are ment to be capped at 7,1p per min. Im not to pleased BT are putting up the connection charged from September. I use BT Broadband Talk for my free evening and weekend calls. Darren |

What on earth does 'capped' at 7.1p per minute mean.
If you are paying 7.1p per minute, that is the charge not a cap. A 'cap' is a limit. |

I think it means that you will not be paying anymore than 7.1p per min at anytime for calling a mobile.

I never call mobiles from my landline, so why should I pay that charge? Since BT introduced "rip off" charges for making calls during the day, I have stopped using my phone and only make calls during the free periods (viz after 7pm and at weekends). My last bill was for £90+, of which only £2 was the cost of calls.

I have never been charged for this before, so you may be right. My fundamental complaint is that I will be paying for a service that I wont use.

Hi chunkymagmonkey
I have just noticed your post and would like to help you with this. If you look in my profile you will find my contact details. If you send me your account information and a link to this post I can look into your bill for you to see why this has been added to your account. Regards David |

That'll teach me to not check my bill and not to sign up for free services I don't need !
I've been charged for this 'free' service for a year now , and the web site won't even let me cancel it, perhaps since I signed a new contact. Presumably they sent me an email about a price change that I never read GRrrr.... |

I have since cancaled the Friends and Family Mobile add on as we dont phone mobiles as much as we used to from the landline since mum died over 3 months ago.
We are still on the BT evening and weekend call plan though. Darren |
