A couple of VCR questions....
Hello everyone, this is my first post of many..(Hopefully!)
I'm thinking of upgrading my Toshiba V633UK video recorder, frankly the picture quality is quite poor, i'm considering one of the following, JVC HRS6965EK or JVC HRS5967EK, which is the better one of the two? i'm not bothered about a wide range of features, i simple want best picture and sound quality. Would either of these be fully compatible with my Toshiba 32ZP38 TV, Pioneeer DBR-T210GBS On-Digital box, and Toshiba 220E DVD player (DVD connected to TV through component connectors)?? Thanks in advance.

Hi there,
If you really want 'best picture and sound quality' I think you should forget VCR's altogether and go for a DVD recorder or HDD recorder. Prices of DVD recorders are coming down all the time and you can now get one for not much more than a VCR. I recently bought a Sony VCR to go with my new 32" TV and was so dissapointed with the picture quality that I threw it out and bought a DVD recorder instead. I appreciate that JVC SVHS is superior to plain old VHS but still no comparison to digital recordings( IMHO). Alan |

VHS is not the best media nowadays. I also bought a Sony VHS a few years back (one of the first modern silver ones). The auto setup works a dream, but the picture is not the best (my old Mitisibushi was better, and that dates back to 1994).

Cheers for the reply David and Alandw, but i bought the JVC HRS6965EK today, and some S-VHS tapes, a VAST improvement on the Tosh' video.
I understand what you guys are saying about DVD recorders and HDD, but for the time being i think this setup will do. Thanks again.

Trouble is, HDD recorders only have a finite amount of space, and DVD recorders are messy in the large amount of formats available and their bugs. The ones with all the features are still very expensive too so I am holding off. People also have large libraries of old VHSs so are unlikely to ditch their VCRs yet. The quality of VCRs went down a bit in the late 90s, with some very poor recordings but they seem to be better now.
Alandw - Sony VCRs from the last few are pretty bad, they are actually made by another company and branded Sony I believe. JVC and Panasonic are definitely the ones to go for these days for picture and build quality. |
