Thinking of dumping Sky HD for Freesat HD....
Sky has gone up AGAIN so I am thinking of getting a Freesat HD recorder, will I be able to use my existing sky dish? I have the full package with Sky - If I get rid I will just watch the movies via Blu-ray from Blockbuster, the only thing I will miss is my beloved Sky Sports - guess I will have to watch them down the pub!!
What do you think? Should I dump Sky? I do watch loads of tv though. |

Yes the current dish is fine, all you have to do is swap over the cables.
You wont miss it. Get a season ticket or go and see sporting events live with the money you save. |

I've just dropped SKY- only planned to have it for a year! - It's been great I must confess - but watched loads more telly than I really should have ! LOL
- and looking at over £800 for the same service next year... NO WAY - Time to move on and do something else. SKY rep was really good - easy to chat to, ran through various options - although to be honest I wasn't looking for a discount. Find a freephone No. at saynoto0870.com Probably get a FoxSAT shortly - got local footie club season tickets now - so tha'll keep our football addicts happy LOL

I have just ditched Sky too and bought the Humax Foxsat HDR. So far am very pleased with it, it is a Managers Special direct from Humax at £199.
I looked at what we were watching, other than Sports, and found that virtually all viewing was available on Freesat or Freeview. I will probably miss some rugby union but there comes a time when you have to look at the cost and £50 a month to watch Sky's reduced coverage of rugby didn't seem good value any more. |

I should be getting the Foxsat shortly to replace my SKy +, I'm paying about £20 a month at the moment, no movies or sports so won't really miss much and am looking forward to getting the HD channels with the BBC One HD coming soon as well hopefully.

Better to keep Sky HD for the free channels rather than Freesat HD (only good if you want to record). Freesat does not carry Five HD or C4 HD.

It's not just recording programmes as the Sky HD or Sky+ box is useless as a PVR unless you pay at least 10 pounds per month. You lose not only the recording function but all the trick play stuff we are now used to in the 21st Century like pause & rewind Live TV, skipping adverts etc. None of that is available on your Sky box unless you pay.
I have freeview which has channels that freesat doesnt have and the last thing I watched on that was the last series of Red Dwarf. |

Even Freeview HD carries C4 HD if you can get it. |

I still rather have Sky HD with free channels than be stuck with Freesat with only BBC HD and ITV1 HD.
Even Freeview HD carries C4 HD if you can get it. |

I think that if you take your viewing card out from your Sky HD box - you will not find much HD that you can actually watch. [based upon what I saw two months back - before I replaced my Sky HD box with my Humax HDR - which I am most happy with]
All these carry alot of HD. Five will offer Europa League in HD and C4 have alot of movies in HD. Both are FTV with a card. Liverpool TV, VIVA and Sky3 are also FTV. |

Does not an 'old' sky card work as 'freesatfromsky' ?
It does set the BBC & ITV region but nothing else. Removing it does stop annoying Sky messages - Like the telephone not connected and about the card. |

I am not knocking Sky, for the totally avid couch potato, especially a football fan then it is good, it's just that it's very expensive if you don't watch a lot of sport. |

Thinking of dumping Sky HD for Freesat HD....
Why are you dumping Sky, with so many new HD channels launching
Sky Sports News HD 23rd August ITV2 HD, ITV3 HD and ITV4 HD from October Sky Movies Classic HD sometime soon according to the Sky Mag Racing UK 2011 Can't you just buy a Freesat HD Box and put it next to the Sky HD Box, as this will not cost you any money apart from buying the box |

Only an old blue card, an expired white card still decrypts FTV channels.
