I said "if it's a Blu-Ray + DVD + HDD recorder". Note the + signs i.e an HD PVR device that can also record on blu-ray discs, DVDs and its internal hard drive. In other words, the Panasonic BD recorders.

They will record from HD channels onto their HDD at broadcast quality, and let you copy that onto BD or DVD as HD (unless the HD programme is copy-prohibited).
