I've just dropped SKY and was planning on getting a new PVR since my old Thompson DHD4000 can't get an EPG anymore

I initially thought of the Humax FoxSat HDR - but the new Humax HRD FoxT2 looks to be pretty good too - and 1 extra HD channel...

Any advice would be appreciated

Different channel line up between freesat and freeview

You might not be able to get a decent signal from one or the other depending on where you are. Freesat is much more widely receivable though

Your freeview signal may only ever have the two SD psb mux plus the HD mux post dso if you receive from a relay transmitter.

You may not even be able to get Freeview HD now where you live (and ma be never)

Less obvious

HD transmissions are copy protected and encrypted on both systems, some Freesat HD pvrs can record in generic fta mode without this annoying restriction. Certainly on freesat ITV1-HD content can't be archived at all, not having Freeview-HD can't be sure on this platform

Why not have both, you then have the best of both worlds, it is still cheaper than a years subs for Sky if you have a premium package.

Yeah - could get both - but 2nd TV is not HD anyway at the mo - that was one of the factors leading to dropping SKY - bad enough paying £10 pm extra to get 'multiroom' but £20 pm for 2nd TV with HD - also led to saving £2000 on a new TV setup - so not bad saved myself nearly £3000

Still got 2 SKY boxes - but no recording or live pause facility - but DHD 4000 can still do that even with no EPG LOL - shame I can't combine the 2 - not paying £120 a year for recording facility either

Trouble is 2nd TV only has satelite feed but is old CRT, main TV has sat and ariel feed but I want it as the HD display obviously... Looks like I'll have to maybe get a second ariel plumbed in

But minus the standard and premium content ... the reason for a PAY-TV subscription ... unless you want to take advantage of their BB and phone deals ...

Any updates now people have got and used 'FoxVIEW HDR's

We don't have HD in our area so personally this is not a priority until 2012. However, if HD was available I would not buy a HD PVR until the market has matured significantly. Which I reckon will take at least 6 months to a year or two. I'm content with Freeview with 3 PVRs providing me with adequate recording capability and acceptable reliability for the time being. We also have a non-subscription Sky STB which my wife uses as she is familiar with it. It's also useful for News Multiscreen which the BBC have dropped from Freeview. So if I was in your position I'd for now get one, maybe two Freeview PVRs (I use a Humax 9200 and a Vestel PVR as a back-up to optimise reliability. and usability).

Well I have old Top Up TV box for freeview and other record able boxes for Freeview which over time has been great. I'm getting a HD PVR in week or so time.

I have freesat HD and freesat HD PVR and enjoy them both.

I would say there are number of difference between both systems.

1) Dish with twin LNB is needed for Freesat HD PVR.
A) Good roof aerial and HD region.

2) Two HD channels on FreeSat.
B) Three HD with another end of this year on freeview.

3) More film channels on freesat.
C) Film 4 is only film channel on freeview

4) FreeSat has BBC iplayer at this time work good too.
D) Freeview will have the player next year if your box has IP slot for cable.

5) Freesat EPG is lined up better then freeview.
E) Freeview has Dave, Yesterday, Channel 1 ( virgin 1 ), Five US & Fiver,

I would not get any box under 500 MB as HD does take space and over holidays and time easter, Xmas your hard drive will fill quickly.

If you can I would go for both as you will get a good number channels together and having both would give cover for 4 channels recordings.
