I'd like to see a link to me saying such a thing because I don't believe I ever have.

I have never been charged by BT for Caller Display.”

Actually, you've said it on more than one occasion. I remembered because a couple of months ago I was researching just this.

Try this where you say:

"I only have to make 6 chargeable calls per quarter (to qualify for 'free' Caller Display) so I have my local Indian takeaways' number programmed into one of my DECT handsets with a 1280 prefix. That means I easily make the required number of calls without even having to think!"

I stand corrected. I clearly did say that.

However, the example you quote was in March 2008 (nearly 2½ years ago) - before I knew about the 'chargeable or inclusive' rule.

Well, yes, but you simply stated that I understood incorrectly when one of the reasons I understood incorrectly was because I took on board what you had written when researching the question.

That research simply backed up the idea that had originally formed when forgot to make any chargeable calls (although I had made plenty of inclusive ones) and BT added a charge for caller display to my bill.

BT should not have charged you if you had made enough inclusive calls.

Anyway, in 2008, BT's call set-up fee was 6p.

In a couple of months, it'll be 10.9p.

Keeping up to date with pricing is essential (don't get me on the subject of petrol prices - I used to buy petrol - in the UK - at less than the equivalent of 24p (4s 9d) per gallon!

LOL.

I didn't buy it myself but I can remember my father fuming at the price of petrol in France when we went on holiday. IIRC it was the equivalent of 3/6 a gallon (although obviously priced in franc/litre). I think that it was around 2/6 here, at the time.

It was around 50p a gallon when I started buying it and people laughed when it was suggested that it might eventually reach £1 a gallon.
