Vodafone Japan
Hello,
I have a Motorola V525, I am not going to Japan but in my network list I cannot find Vodafine KK, or J Phone, or Vodafone Japan. I thought it would have it because it is a Quad Band Phone (800,900,1800,1900). Thanks. Stephen |

I'm pretty sure that Japan doesn't use any form of GSM, it uses it's own network technology. Hence the reason you can't find it on a GSM phone. They use a combination of CDMA and some other unusual frequencies.
Have a look at http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_jp.shtml for some rough information. |

Yes, but on the vodafone website page with the prices, show it. Page link: http://www.vodafonegoingabroad.co.uk/worldpay_payt.htm
Also on the preferred networks page they show Japan. Page Link: http://www.vodafonegoingabroad.co.uk..._suppliers.htm So why do they have Quad Band, that is mianly on new Motorola's? |

Allright so they have a roaming agreement with Japanese networks, doesn't mean your phone will work out there. Okay they show Vodafone KK Japan on their preferred networks list but there are no two ways about it - that network is a 3G network, probably using W-CDMA technology! (The same as Hutch's 3 network)
Quad Band phones support 850/900/1800/1900Mhz. 850 and 1900Mhz are used in American GSM networks and 900 and 1800Mhz are used in GSM networks everywhere else. So basically with a quad band phone you can see any GSM network anywhere, but not CDMA, W-CDMA, TDMA etc. networks. They use completely different network technology. |

Japan's main networks are based on 3G, so you'd need a 900/1800/3G phone to work out there. I think quad band phones are 850/900/1800/1900, the 850 block is being used by some networks in the USA. Many 3G phones currently support 900/1800 as well as 3G.

I work for VF and can confirm that no handset will work in Japan.
We have a hire company that rents out handsets, but you would need a separate mobile number, and I understand it's not cheap ! |
