Wrongly recording over other programmes - multiple times

Some time ago my Humax started to record over existing programmes. It would keep the name of the original programme but when you hit play it was a different programme.

This programme (with the wrong name) is also repeated up to 3 or 4 times in my list of recorded programmes.

I reformated the hard drive and it was fine - for about a year then it happened again.

It's just happened for the third time. I contacted Humax who say reformatting should solve it but it clearly doesn't solve it long term as I always fwar it may happen again.

They said I could put in a new HDD but they are out of stock.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is it the HDD - if so which one should I get and is it easy to install - or is the software (v21) flaky?

I don't see why it should be a hardware fault - I thought it put up a disk error message of some sort then that happens.

I suppose a reformat once a year isn't too unreasonable, though I've only had to do it on my 9200T once - I've had it since Feb 2006.

Yes. Some more often than others, but some never.

Some believe that can be a cause.

Seagate CE. The only suitable new PATA drive that you are likely to find is the 160GB ST3160215ACE.

Very easy. The firmware is not stored on the HDD and the Humax will write a new index to an unformatted disc. It will take a few seconds for the Humax to do this.

It is not unique to the V21 software

you could connect the HDD to a PC and try humaxcheck and Humaxrw for sorting out disc content corruptions and transfers.

I get the same problem and have had it about a year now and it has happened since version .23 software also.
I am sure it is a software bug. I have just reformatted the disk and I think it happens when you use try to record a programme which has already started etc, so I am going to try to avoid any trick play functions from now on. Once you get one dodgy recording you have to bite the bullet and reformat.

I have this now! so a reformat losing a whole diskfull of programs is my only option?

You could use humaxrw to download the programs, do a format and then use humaxrw to put them back again.

Thanks
I am a bit too busy to start mucking about with it really.
Can I do a factory re-set? is that how you reformat the drive?

No, it's Menu->Record->HDD Control->Format.

It isn't required very often; I've only had to do it once since I bought my 9200T in 2006.
