I'm relieved to hear it's not just me. I thought maybe I was getting old!

I've had Heat on subscription for years and I used to love it. Now it's Twilight obsessed and full of cheap fashion articles. The letters page is positively cringeworthy and it's lost it's sarcasm altogether it seems. Since Mark Frith left, it's got very low brow and trashy - and there are only so many pictures of obscure American celebs in bikini's and on catwalks that I can stomach. Having read this thread, I think I might try Now! instead.

Now? I buy it every now and then but it's rubbish. It takes me five mins to flick through the whole thing and there is nothing I want to read.
That seems to be the general overall opinion, we all USED to love it, but its let us down badly... its original readers... and its a shame as it was one of the few irreveant magazines i felt i could "trust" in a way... now i think its something only my 18yr old can read and enjoy.

That's cool. I sometimes do trends but only if:

a) I like the trend

and

b) the trend suits me and my body type.

I never blindly follow fashion. I think style is more important than being a slave to fashion.

When I read this thread I thought to myself - wow I used to buy all the magazines religiously every week and now I occasionally buy the odd one. I couldn't think why I stopped and then I realised - Digital Spy has become the magazines for me. It has all the gossip and links to websites in it's forums for interesting gossip articles in magazines therefore negating any need to spend money and purchase them. I think the quality has gone down in magazines but I think it is also another case of the internet taking over.

Unfortunately, the internet has replaced it, indeed. It's not about that though. The magazine has been in decline for years, and it's got so bad lately that I keep deciding to cancel my subscription (I never actually have the balls to do it). I haven't even received this week's. Grr.

Thank goodness for this thread!
My name is Fatsia, and I am a Heat subscriber

I have recently cancelled my subscription after 10 years, on the basis that I haven't seen Twilight, can't bear Big Brother and have never seen Jersey Shore/The Hills/The OC so consequently I don't know who the hell they're talking about most of the time!

With regard to their fashion, I'm 40 for god's sake, I don't care if bandage mini-dresses are in, I'm just dressing to hide my wobbly tummy.

AND ANOTHER THING - by the time the mag comes out I've already read all the gossip I'm interested in online! It's all OLD NEWS!!

Really I only have it now for the TV guide - can anybody reccommend a good TV guide?!

I read the magazine at work when it first came out and I thought it was Cr@p back then. I can't believe it could have got worse, it was dire to begin with

Yes. The guardian newspaper on a Saturday has a great tv guide for the week.

The only time I read Heat is if a friend has it. It's okay I suppose as it will have a good interview, but that Lucie Cave annoys me beyond belief. She seems to think she is some sort of mini celbrity or something. Very delusional.

They do seem anti size zero though, I suppose that's one good thing about them.
This is one of the main reasons that I stopped buying. The woman is sooooo annoying!! I don't want to see her mug gurning at me in nearly every edition!!

Gawd, I used to LOVE that magazine when I was 17 or 18, it was full of informative sex tips for a young virgin interested in being deflowered.
Ha ha, I remember more magazine being like that! I remember my mum freaking out once when she found a copy in my bedroom that had the headline "How to give the perfect b**w j*b" or something like that. She banned me from reading it (which of course meant that I still read it, but in secret). I was only about 14, I don't think I understood most of it anyway!!

Heat was a good magazine about ten years ago; a decent mix of news and TV stuff.

Then the obsessions with Big Brother, Eastenders and pap shots of celebrity cellulite gradually took over.

I don't really read magazines anymore.

I found my mag. Live with someone with dementia and it had ended up in an odd place. The tv review section used to be easily the best around. Informative, sarcastic, funny. Ten years ago the mag was at its peak. Five years ago it was still very good. Mark Frith left and it got progressively worse. It needed to remain brilliant through the rise of online gossip and discussion. Main problems are internet is instant and interactive. It's also anonymous so people who know stuff can talk about it. If a mag publishes an article with anonymous sources, it feels pointless and often dishonest and seedy. Because Heat is aimed at people my age and younger, it will suffer. We surf the net. People my mum's age need mags but Heat's a little young and irrelevant for her, although she does read my copies when I'm done with them.

im 40 and really feel its dumbed down into comic form now, its not for people my age anymore which is a shame, it seems to be aimed at 14yr olds who love The Hills and Twilight, such a shame as it was the first of its kind when it arrived, Mark Firth did keep it on point and now its just ridiculous... i walked past it this week and picked up NOW, ill let people know what i think when ive read this weeks LOL

I used to always compare Now unfavourably with Heat. It just seemed too made up and gushy. I dunno now.

I've proper gone off Heat, there's too much focus on chezza, and the vitriol with which they speak about jordan makes me a bit uncomfortable.

I still buy it but I definitely think it has gone downhill since Mark Frith stopped editing it.

They used to stick up for Jordan, which used to bug me like mad. It is quite full of adverts these days. Still not as bad as glossy mags. I skip past the fashion... Which is a lot to skip through. Way, way too much space given to Big Brother. In fact, I could go on. There's a lot wrong with Heat these days. But it's still one of the better celeb mags. It's just that it used to be so good that the reduced quality is very noticeable. The other mags started mediocre.

Same. Though, if there is something nice in fashion, then I will buy it. I suppose fashion is as fashion does, and there is no such fashion. It's all about taste
