I wouldn't worry, you sound pretty good for a non-English speaker.

Anyway, I think Norris was a friend of Mavis and Derek's (a well-known and brilliant old couple who left in the late 90s). I don't know how he came to settle in the street, but after Derek died it's possible he became closer to Mavis and got to know people like that? I'm really not sure...

Hi Mon99

Norris first appeared in Corrie in 1994 when Derek Wilton was stranded at a motorway service station and Norris gave him a lift home. After that Norris began to keep visiting Derek...or should I say 'Dirk'...and got Derek into becoming a salesman. Norris then ended up marrying Derek's ex-wife Angela Hawthorne, which lead to the infamous "Stolen gnome" storyline.

In 1996 Mavis and 'Dirk' thought that Norris had murdered his wife Angela and Derek dug up Norris' allotment, only to find a set of golf-clubs. Norris then left the area.

He returned in 1999 and began working with Rita at the Kabin as he continues to today.

While I've got the Corrie.net page open, here's Norris's profile:
http://www.corrie.net/profiles/chara...le_norris.html

He used to be rather unlikeable, but has turned more cuddly and amusing (taking over the joint Mavis/Derek role really!)

Haha I think a lot of people think that.

I remember a couple of years ago, I think it was on the corrie.net guestbook there was rumour that Rita was to be written out. Somone suggested that she would die...

"Rita has a heart attack on learning of Norris's Heterosexuality"

Thanks for this Ben. When Mon asked, I couldn't for the life of me remember how or when Norris first made an appearance. Norris was always a bit eccentric and quirky, but they've really developed his character and he's evolved into a great comedy actor and I really enjoy it when he's on.

Well the thing is I don't we've ever been told about Norris's past. Derek was always talking about Angela, but Norris only his pet cat! Perhaps they've intentionally left out his personal life so they can develop the story any way they choose. Ahh, the question is though...... could we take a Norris is snared thread?! LOL

I think Norris is great and he was every bit as annoying and irritating when he first arrived as he is now. He is perfect. Remember when he moved in with Mavis and Derek how disgusted she was with him and how hard they tried to make him move out.
Which leads me on to a question, when he did move out did he move in with Emily immediately? If not where did he go before there?

Norris moved out of Number 4 (Derek & Mavis' house) in about 1995 when he married Angela Hawthorne. He made fleeting appearances until he was divorced in 1999 and took his job at the Kabin. He moved into Emily's house in 2000. I don't know where he lived between 1999 and 2000. He also lodged with Les and Kirk when Emily threw him out, and he gained the nickname Dorris.

My favourite Norris bit was when he was on TV at the Commonwealth games and nobody was watching at the time. I felt really sad for him.

I'd forgotten abou that! It was hilarious! Or when he was delighted to be on a jury and had to back out because it was Les in the dock!

He just turned up one day and said i want to live here so he became gay, got married, had an affair, luring Rita Sullivan into bed, robbed the factory then decided to settle down and get a job at the local newsagents.
Okay so it wasn't quite like that, i don't know how it happened.
Derek and Mavis? Angela?

Somewhere I have a memory of him staying in the same B&B Jack&Vera took over when the owner (Eunice Gee..?) went to Spain for a few months. This was just after they were living in the Rovers I think. Norris then turned up on the Street somehow. Don't know where this memory came from or if it's even accurate but it's there in my head!!

You're right he did stay with Jack and Vera in the B&B and not surprisingly he was the most awkward person ever. Didn't Eunice decide to sell the B&B and that forced Jack and Vera out , they thought they were going to be homeless but then Gary Mallett decided to move from Coronation Street and Jack and Vera bought their house back from him. It must have been then that Norris moved in with Emily. I can't think when else it would have been.

Norris returned to the Street in 99 as a stationary salesman who turned up at The Kabin, he asked where Mavis had gone and then he just seemed to get a job there!! He did live in the B&B before moving in with Emily. The last we saw of him before that was when he walked up and did a speech at Derek Wilton's funeral. Ken was meant to do it but Norris just got up instead, much to Mavis' disgust!

He was brought back because with the demise of Derek the show lacked a dithering male character. Norris is a mixture of Derek & Mavis all rolled into one and is a classic Corrie character!
