Sound problems Humax 9300T

I apologise if this has been discussed before. The sound on playback on certain recordings keeps skipping and with occasional problems with synchronising of audio and video.Sometimes I can fix this by pausing and then pressing play again. The machine is 4 months old and running the latest firmware.Any ideas anyone?

The same happens with mine when I fast forward and then press play. Rewinding a bit or pausing usually cures it. It's OK on normal playback when I don't FFWD.

It seems to happen on certain channels though, e.g. ITV2.

Pretty much all MPEG decoders can suffer this when there is a 'glitch' in the datastream (often down to dodgy reception or interference). Changing channels will cure it (as it resets the data-stream input to the decoder) as will stopping the playback of a recorded stream and re-starting.

I don't usually find pause then play to fix it when I get the problem on my 9200T (which is fairly rarely). I don't do a lot of trick play FF/REW - but do ad skip forward 60s and back 15s a lot.

Looks like I'll have to put up with it then.Signal strength here is very good,2 miles from the transmitter, clear line of sight with nothing at all in the way.Seldom use the fast forward and when the sound does throw a strop it's when I'm just sitting there watching whatever I've recorded.Never had this problem when using good old VHS technology.

I suspect it's an interference issue. The Huax just records the received datastream and then decodes it on playback, so if there is interference about the Humax records it as well.

Tune to ITV2 and check the signal strength/quality readings from the Humax. Quality must be 100%.

If your aerial cables are of poor quality (thin white variety with moulded ends) you might need to replace with the double-screened variety.

Is your aerial in the room? loft? or outside?

Keep the aerial leads well away from any hdmi leads, dect base stations, wi-fi modem/routers and the like.

Twin screened cable is used throughout the house.Aerials<two of them> are situated in the loft one wideband and one group A.Same result via both aerials,no DECT base units sited anywhere near it and the WIFI router is in another room.Signal quality is reported as 100% whatever that's supposed to mean.Signal strength 91% on ITV2.Obviously the two aerials aren't connected at the same time!
No idea where to go from here really.

91% is very high! You've possibly got TOO much signal and are overloading the RF stages of the tuners?

The Humax will work happily down to signal strengths of 50% or even less. The quality reading is a measure of errors received (before or after error correction by the receiver, depending on the maker - I don't know what Humax do). This should be 100% ideally.

Try a long (very long) cable to attenuate the signal if you have one lying about (or get a plug-in attenuator to reduce the signal).

How near to the transmitter are you? Are you using an amplifier? Remove it if, yes, to see if it helps with the problem.

No amplifier needed at this address,I have several attenuators I can use in line,I guess we're about 2 miles from the transmitter as the crow(or Seagull)flies. As before the quality remains at 100%

The description of the playback issues sound like those discussed on this previous thread http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s....php?t=1123518 regarding the playback of Family Guy recordings.
