DVDR 7250H missing EPG problem
I've got a Phillips 7250H DVD recorder but my EPG is missing for some reason. I go onto the EPG page and it is blank for some reason. Does anyone know why and know what I can do to fix it? Thanks.
I've had it for a couple of years but this only happened a few months ago. |

If programme data is appearing then disappearing, that points to bad reception of the EPG data stream. Make you you have good reception of your chosen EPG source.
If the EPG suddenly stops updating at all, it could also be reduced signal quality, but could also point to a change to the source transmission. Many Guideplus users will experience problems as analogue transmissions of ITV1 are switched off over the next year or two, they will need to re-install the Guideplus system from scratch and connect the machine to an external freeview or satellite box for the EPG data. |

The only potential guideplus sources are only going to be from external sources via a Sky Box provided by Eurosport on channel 410 and from Bid-up TV from a Freeview Box.
The 7250H does have its own DTT/Freeview tuner, but the manufacterer didn't seem to have designed it as a source for Guideplus - the regular internal source was the analogue tuner using ITV1, now increasingly defunct as analogue switchoff progresses. Some will see this and go on about using the Freeview EPG instead. Besides a basic Now/Next and programme synopsis, this model has no direct software for a full Freeview EPG. Guideplus will display a combination of DTT and Satellite channels (not sure about cable TV), with the option to choose your source when channels are broadcast by more than one platform. It's a shame that Guideplus has the update and download problems it has, and is in need of more support from its providers, especially negotiating more or better sources than Bidup and Eurosport. |

Dear Viewer thank you, yesterday i decided to do a rescan for Digital Channels,lo and behold BBC1 and 2 were back to normal. So i set the recorder to record a BBC1 and 2 programme,it recorded them both and i could play them back okay,so i tried again and it recorded okay again. So last week i had a useless recorder that i was going to dump to one that is back to normal again. It will probably stay this way until the ITV1 signal goes weak then it will stop downloading the EPG.Lets hope it hangs on for a bit longer,by the way i have a Freeview box wired up to this recorder so when the recorder is recording one digital channel i can watch a different digital channel via the freeview box.Someone on this forum told me how to wire it up about 3yrs ago.Cheers.Cumbrian

I've noticed recently that the 'EPG Download' notice is displayed more often on my recorder - my default channel is Eurosport on Sky 410.
Of late, indication of any download has been hit and miss via Eurosport. But lately, I've only had to leave it in standby for around an hour, tuned to Eurosport during more sociable periods to ensure the EPG is updated fully. This will prove useful to those of us with Sky who can't setup the EPG via BidUp on Freeview and are losing the analogue service via ITV1 as UK switchover progresses. |

Have you tried a complete Installation of the Guideplus system, then leaving the unit powered up on BidTV for a day, to see if any data is actually downloaded? Subsequently selecting the EPG and powering the recorder down should fix the new download channel in the system. |

I haven't actually tried it, but it does seem a rather strange omission - I was under the impression (possibly misguided) that the later models at least were able to use the internal freeview tuner.

Not actually bothered now that the external source seems to be sorted now. |

The source selection on this recorder only appears to let you select between the Analogue Tuner(not in use) and an external source by Scart. I agree That you'd thought that Digital Tuner would have also been in that choice, but no - unless I've missed some firmware update.
I don't think either of my models allow you to select the source, they just fix on the first download stream seen by the recorder. |

Interesting. I have two of these Philips recorders, an early one with analogue tuner, which is no problem with analogue ITV or an external source, and a later DVDR5570 freeview model which is still happily using the analogue signal... I must have a fiddle with it and see if the BidTV option is going to work.
I don't think either of my models allow you to select the source, they just fix on the first download stream seen by the recorder. You have around a year left (more or less) before your analogue option is lost - Not sure of your exact date for DSO in your location. |

Update.
I've recently had a Thomson SkyHD box replaced with an Amstrad DX890 Sky+HD box and connected it via the single scart to my DVDR 7250. The 'EPG DOWNLOAD' message was somewhat haphazard with this box when tuned to Eurosport 410. ![]() So far the pickup of Guide+ download is better with the Amstrad model connected. ![]() Remember to select Sky+ and not Sky Digital in the menu choices to get the G-link control correct.
