Global Superstars of this Generation - Who are they and who has the potential..
Well of the 20th Century we had Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Madonna, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Oasis..
But who of the 21st Century.. We've got Beyonce, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Eminem, P!nk, Lady GaGa and Justin Timberlake so far and I think Katy Perry, Lil Wayne, Miley Cyrus and Leona Lewis are all on there way there. But who do you think has the potential to become a fully fledged music icon and who from Britain? |

Beyonce is the only one so far this century. I think Lady Gaga will be an icon after her next album. I suppose Eminem is up there too.

Not sure I agree with either of your lists. Superstars have to be immensely popular and iconic in all of the major music markets, and Oasis weren't that.
I think the age of the superstar is dead, because people have access to such diverse music that they didn't before. If there is one that's recently emerged, it's Lady GaGa. |

I think lady gaga and beyonce are the only potential ones, maybe leona lewis with the right songs.

I think it all could change with their next albums, but I'm going to say Beyonce, Rihanna and Lady Gaga.
Katy Perry as well, depending on how her current campaign goes. |

Katy Perry? Not a chance. I mean, I do like her, but there's nothing special or remarkable about her as an artist, is there?

And she's a good song writer. |

Britney Spears is already a global superstar and has been since the late 90s.

Well it depends how we're defining 'this generation'. Are we including the 90's?
The Spice Girls will probably carry the torch for boy/girl bands. Britney Spears will be remembered, for better and worse. Christina Aguilera has the voice that will set her apart, despite not being as successful as she could be she's still one of the biggest popstars we've had this decade. I think Justin Timberlake still has a few albums to do before he can be classed as a superstar. Beyonce isn't going anywhere. Even when she begins to slip from the top, she'll be regarded very highly in the industry. Lady Gaga has been the biggest thing to burst onto the scene in over a decade. She has everything going for her and seems dead set on being a music legend. If she can continue to ascend with her next album, I think she'll be set for a while. Jay Z is easily the king of hip hop. |

Not really, but California Gurls, I Kissed A Girl and Hot'N'Cold were all smashes, and then she has Waking Up In Vegas and Teenage Dream. Her debut didn't sell particularly well, but this album will probably sell better. If this album manages to sell 3+ million worldwide, I think she's well on her way to being a superstar.
And she's a good song writer. |

Rihanna in a few years, I honestly don't think she can really be considered a "superstar" right now
Alicia Keys is well on her way too, however that's possibly just because she's ridiculously overplayed |

I'd say Beyonce, she was the lead singer of one of the most successful girlgroups and now she is one of the most successful solo acts of this generation.
If Lady Gaga keeps going like she is now then she will definately be one. Rihanna has the potential. sometimes I think she will and then other times I dobut her, she has had 7 number ones, the most any female has had since the start of 2000s and she only came on the scene in 2005. But her recent album and tour haven't sold as well as many expected. I know she went for a darker image and sound but alot of people expected this to be the making of her and I don't think it was. If her next album is more successful than Rated R then I think she could be on her way, but if not I feel she may lose momentum and slowly but surely dissapear. Britney&Christina were stars of the last 90s(As was Beyonce with Destiny's Child) and I do think they will be remembered. |

Except Eminem is because he was the first white rapper and one of best rappers, lyrically. Rihanna is sort of to beyonce what princess is to queen but rihanna has so much potential especially with her uniqueish monotone vocals Justin is widely regarded a superstar, just not as much over here. alicia keys IS a superstar. empire state of mind has now cemented that fact. |

If i am honest, i really do not know
I love how people are saying Lady gaga. Just one era in her career and people think she is the new madonna or gonna be down is history with all the greats. Let's be real now. Let's see if she do a britney (whose second album was just as huge as her second but a little lower in sales). Lady gaga needs to have at least 3/4 successful albums under her belt to really really establish herself and possibly be a superstar of this generation. You can never really tell. |
