We don't need to see your breasts uncovered to establish what shape they are. We get you to keep it on so we can get an accurate measurement under your bust and guage the size by the cup you are wearing.

I think size hugely various betweens brands especially if your like me and wear more independent luxury brands like Fleur of England, Mimi Holliday and Made by Niki.

I used to wear a 36e purely from sheer naivety about how a bra should actually fit & look on the body. So now I just ignore sizes and go on fit, support and of course how gorgeous it is.

Like the women points out above you must always make sure to try the bra on the last setting as the piece really will stretch. I usually only keep bras on average for 8 months for this reason, but I can understand how this isn't realistic for everyone.

Its always important that the bra sits underneath your breast/on the breast bone, not on your ribs..this offers no support. Nor should your shoulders be taking the brunt of the weight.

Importantly the centre bit of the bra should always sit flat between the breasts. If it doesn't it means the size is wrong. Ignore the images of women in lads mag with bras showing otherwise, thats how I got the wrong impression.

Oh yea and elle macpherson lingerie runs soo small a G is pretty much a E.

For each fitting you get make sure you are measured as different companies size bras differently

When I got my first proper bra I went to M&S and got measured as a 40B. Then I got measured at House of Fraser and got a 36C. I have heard since that M&S always go over on the back size and under on the cup size. 36C definitely fit me better.

I don't think we are "a" size in terms of numbers and letters. Just like with clothes, bras aren't always measured the same. In one shop I can buy a pair of size 14 jeans, in another I need size 18. With a bra sometimes 36C is great, sometimes I need 38C, sometimes I need a somethingB.

I tried bras on in evans for the first time this weekend and was surprised that they seemed much smaller than my usuals as I tend to think their clothes sizes are pretty generous. Anyone else find this?

I went to Rigby and Peller once and was disappointed with the bras I bought. Within 6 months, the hooks had bent so much I could no longer wear them. It might be just one bad experience but I get my bras from Bravissimo now. I go for a fitting then if I want to buy more of that particular type I order them on line - their ordering/return service is very good.

I usually try the bra on for size. I know it's naughty but I like a cup smaller so it pushes in my cleavage rather than to be fitted.

I am a 32c but I've had three kids so they aren't as pert as they once were but I find my boobs look lovely and round in a 32b! Especially in an Ultimo Gel Bra. I bought the Wonderbra Hold bra and it is total shit.

I usually stick to the same brands now. I just buy various sizes for each and keep whichever ones fit the best
M&S - 30D/DD
Wonderbra - 30D/32D/32DD
Gossard - 30D (though the cup is too small now)

Steer well clear of places like La Senza and M&S for measuring. A measuring tape will not give you an accurate size. You will be different sizes in different styles and different brands.

That's why Bravissimo and Rigby and Peller are so good. They will get a rough idea of you size and then try you in all sorts of different styles to get you ones that fit.

When I was measured at M&S I was told that I was a 36DD. They sold me a load of bras that were very uncomfortable and kept riding up and made me look saggy.

I went to Bravissimo and they were horrified by what I had been put in. They gauged my size by looking at the fit of my current bra and then tried me in countless bras to find the proper fit. I was in fact a 32G. Wow- M&S excellent work on doing the worst fitting known to womankind!

I couldn't believe the difference it made to how I looked. I had lots more confidence!

The only warning I would give is that the size that they tell you in one of these "proper" bra shops, will not work on the high street. The sizing of companies like Bravissimo, Rigby and Peller, Freya, Panache, Fantasie etc is proper bra industry sizing. It's not like M&S and La Senza who apparently make their sizes up on a whim, particularly at the larger end. A person who is a 34F in Panache will never squeeze into the work of fiction that La Sezna call an F cup.

So just watch out for that!

I remember years ago I had been ordering the same size(36ff) from Bravissimo as I couldn't get to a shop easily and that was the size I had been measured in contessa and one day I was in Bravisismo in Covent Garden getting a strapless bra as I was going out that evening and the woman behind the counter said to me you are not 36 more likely a 30/32 and that was just by sight. Anyway I went back in a few weeks later and actually got fitted properly and it turned out I was a 30H/32GG depending on bra and had been wearing the wrong size for ages. It is amazing what a difference the correct fitting bra made.

34DD and 32F are notionally pretty close. they are not interchangeable obviously but the they are the same size across the middle and about 50% of people wearing one should be wearing the other and vice versa.

i can guess bra sizes pretty well. if you know what size someone is currently wearing it's particularly easy.

in my experience most women are wearing the wrong size, usually the strap is too big and the cup too small. it's difficult to tell people, (being a bloke.) But a friend recently... i had to tell her, she was wearing a 34C and was clearly a 32E. i know she often had a bad back so i had to delicately bring it up. it's really tricky, 'So i've been staring at your tits....' anyway i was right, and her bad back is gone.

I always have a mare, my weight fluctuates a fair bit, I have bras at home that range from 34C to 38D. Everytime I go and get a bra, I have to get measured.

best way is to be fitted to bras not measured.

I went to an expensive bra shop and they basically get loads of bras and put them on you and adjust so they fit right.

So Lepel bras I was fitting a 30dd but with freya a 32dd and it also depended on the style of bra as well. There's no substitute for trying them on imo

I know people say avoid La Senza, but they fitted me the best! Been to bravissimo, and I can't remember what they measured me as, but I wasn't comfy in the bra's.They're also expensive (I'm a poor student!) so i'd only buy 1 at a time. Ended up something like a 34F (I think? Was a year ago!)

Popped into la senza on a whim and came out with 5 perfectly fitting bra's, and they've been SO comfy! I'm now in a 32DD and have so much more choice!
