Humax versus Sagem

Well I guess I spoke too soon in my newbie post. Last night I set 3 programmes to record on my 9200T. Much later I discovered it had frozen 15 mins into the first programme so I didn't have anything. I am on the latest .23 firmware (though I still have the .07 loader).

This is just about the last straw. I have had the box for 3 years, I guess, and have had a number of problems in the last 18 months. With the help of this forum I thought I was getting somewhere (e.g. manual retune seemed to make box more stable) but now I'm hacked-off and not inclined to reward Humax by buying a replacement box (e.g. 9300T)

I am now considering defecting to Sagem (e.g. Sagem DTR67250T 250Gb Twin Tuner Freeview+) but was wondering if this is like jumping out of the frying pan into the fire? Anyone have experience of the newer Sagem boxes?

I have a sagem DTR67500T and it records OK, though some are very critical about these on the Sagem threads. Can I make a suggestion: buy one online in case you want to invoke your right to cancel (within 7 days after delivery) if you do not like it. As you may in the end prefer the Humax.

Thanks Marc for your suggestion. Good idea. Just to double check , the 7 day cooling off period you mention, must still apply even if the unit has been unpacked and used?

I have a Sagem DTR67160T and I've not had any major problems infact its been the most stable PVR I've ever had and I've had a few.

I think you may find that once opened the 7 day cooling off period won't apply.

Thanks azimo for the info. Certainly the more recent feedback on Amazon for the Sagem is more positive and the sister Sagem forum seems to be saying the recent OTA update has sorted out reported sound problems (though early days of course.)

Re the Sagem 67 box, I note it has a USB port to allow export & import of recordings (neat) but I was wondering if this can also be used to manually update the firmware if miss an OTA. This certainly would be an improvement over the Humax.

Also, the datasheet http://www.sagemcomdigital.co.uk/doc..._Datasheet.pdf suggests it has an Ethernet port but I can't find any mention of this in the manual or in any of the pictures I've seen. Any ideas? (sorry if this seems off-topic - perhaps I need to move post to Sagem)

I had a Sagem PVR7xxxx TUTV and it was poor from new and worse after an off-air update. Sagem's customer service consists of a Gallic shrug and no more. Obviously there are newer models that may be better but I doubt that their service has improved. When I complained to Comet after many months they swapped it for my current (trouble free) Humax 9200 plus some cash with no quibbling at all. I got the feeling there was a heap of returned Sagem units out the back. Not with anybody's dirty stick...

Between myself, family and friends we own two Humax PVRs (9200,150) a Sagem and a Thomson. They all have bugs, they all play up from time to time and they all sometimes miss recordings. The Thomson is easily the worst offender and regularly crashes, loses track of available hard drive space and misses lots of recordings. The Sagem is next worst, although is a lot better than the Thomson. It misses recordings and has the occasional lockup. The Humax recorders are the best of the bunch, although not perfect. In terms of support, the Humax units win hands down.

Conclusion: I've yet to see a perfect PVR, but Humax is the best I've tried and at least they do provide some support.

That is certainly an improvement on the Sagem SD models. Does it also record freeview Radio?

I'm sorry to say no it doesn't. (Just bought one.)

Unless it's a software issue - v.206 currently, but I sincerely doubt it will make any difference when I install the update.

My dad and mum use the Humax 9300T (320GB model).

I will also be buying the Humax 9300T (320GB model) form Tesco tommorrow night after I finish work which will replace my Topfiled TF5800 which has developed a fault.

I have had a play with my dad and mum's and I really liked it and I am not really bothered about reciving HD on Freeview.

So for me it's Humax all the way.
