New firmware update freesat
Got an email from humax about the launch of the Humax freeview HD dvb-t2 + pvr.
from. Graham North Commercial Director Humax Electronics Co. Ltd. At the end of the email he wrote. I will be back to you shortly with news of software updates for the Freesat models, but that's all for now. |

That sounds promising, hopefully it will sort out a few of the glitches the machine can have.

If Bobcat is reading this. One small request.
I know youre not allowed to let us reorder the EPG so how about having ITV HD (and BBC1 HD when that comes) to be one of the alternatives in the "edit customisable channels" section? Its going to be very annoying having them both on different pages when the SD channels are deleted. |

Flyer10,
We couldn't implement that on a specific basis. HOWEVER, it is actually an option for the broadcaster. They can implement a range of different options around channel numbering. If you would like to see this I would try contacting ITV and Freesat. You would probably need to get more than just one person interested in this though. Bob |

Thanks for the reply Bobcat.
Same here, BBC1HD in 101 and ITV HD in 103. Obviously the only way this can be achieved is to have it offered in the alternative channels list. Here is the freesat contact page. http://www.freesat.co.uk/index.php?p...a5l2ji7tidscj4 Theres no point contacting BBC or ITV as it wont even get past the automated reply/fob off. |

What is the point in this? Everytime I select something also broadcast in HD, an option to record that stream apears.
Many people are probably using their Freesat(+) boxes and/or Freesat IDTV's as their main source for LIVE viewing as well as for time shift recording... 101 & 103 for BBC1 HD and ITV1 HD in that case makes perfect sense. (IMO) |

The box also pops up with a 'watch' message too should you want to watch and not record.
No news on an ETA for any update? |

101 BBC1 HD 102 BBC2 HD (if it ever happens) 103 ITV1 HD (or STV HD in Scotland) 104 Channel 4 HD (if it ever comes off decode for Freesat) 105 Five HD (if it ever comes to either Freesat & Freeview) I don't think the way Freeview HD has it on 50 (BBC HD) 51 (STV HD up here) & 52 (Channel 4 HD) is a permanent solution either. Again, too far away from the normal slots 1-5. Quote:

You can reorder the Freeview EPG but it makes no sense to be forced to have BBC2 and ITV1 on the 2nd or 3rd page and not be allowed to put them 1st and 3rd where the SD channels are.

I love my HDR, but there are some niggles I would like to see fixed in a future update:
1) Tabbed EPG I would like to see a tabbed EPG, rather like the latest Sky EPG. This way the EPG listings can be grouped to avoid constant scrolling up and down. The tabs could be: All Channels HD Channels Favourites Schedule Search 2) When 1st loading the EPG, navigating is rather slow until the background channel preview is shown. I dont really know why the preview (sits behind the semi-transparent EPG) takes so long to load, but the load is obviously impacting on the EPG navigation. 2) When selecting to record a series on a programme thats also in HD, you get the option to record the HD version instead. Really good feature. However, imagine this scenario: You set a programme thats on every Thursday at 8pm on BBC1 to record the series and choose the HD version. The following week you see that programme again listed in the EPG on BBC1, but it has no icon to say its going to be recorded. Thinking that you haven't set it to record, you select it and again get the option to record the series then the option to record in HD - even though the series link is already set up. So without hunting down the EPG pages to check if you already have the series link set up in HD (or checking the schedule) its very difficult to see whats going on. I would like to see a message saying 'You already have a series link for this programme in HD' with options. Perhaps even a 'HD record' icon on the SD EPG block so you know that programme is going to be recorded. 3) My old 9200T allowed you to look at the media list, select each programme with a coloured button and do a batch delete. As far as I can see this is not possible on the Foxsat HDR. It is possible to use file manager to delete a whole series in one go, but not possible to mark several series and single programmes to delete in 1 step. |

If you press the schedule button and then the red button you will call up the buffered epg and this will allow you to navigate with out any delayed response

Indeed it does but that's not the point either... I don't know of a single EPG in the UK where the first 5 channels in order aren't the main public broadcast channels (much to $ky's chagrin of course...). Whether that be 1 to 5 or 101 to 105. It would make absolutely no sense to have BBC 1 HD on 108 or ITV1 HD to be on 119 permanently and much more sense to enable the option of 101 & 103 respectively. So that they can be:
101 BBC1 HD 102 BBC2 HD (if it ever happens) 103 ITV1 HD (or STV HD in Scotland) 104 Channel 4 HD (if it ever comes off decode for Freesat) 105 Five HD (if it ever comes to either Freesat & Freeview) I don't think the way Freeview HD has it on 50 (BBC HD) 51 (STV HD up here) & 52 (Channel 4 HD) is a permanent solution either. Again, too far away from the normal slots 1-5. Haven't heard a thing... |

Unfortunately OFCOM regulates that the PSBs are given prominence on any EPG (i.e the first page of the guide and most platforms use the first 5 epg slots). HD simulcast channels do not count as PSBs yet and are unlikely to do so for some years until they fulfill all the requirements of PSB status - the main block to that at present being regionalisation and BBC and ITV in particular would have to find room for a heck of a lot of FTA HD channels for freesat use in order to meet that requirement.

Before people start asking why is it allowed on some Freeview boxes - Freeview is NOT an EPG platform as such but merely an EPG data specification that box manufacturers write (or have written for them) software to use that data in their own design of EPG guide.

On the epg view you can press the opt+ button and this will offer you the genre screen from where you can view the appropriate epg's
On the channel list view press the coloured buttons Yellow Tab (HD TV) Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately this only gives me the name of the channel and its numberl. What I think the box needs is a HD group on the EPG so we can look and both HD channels offerings for the week - a tabbed, grouped/filtered EPG. I realise Sky is a proprietary system, but I would have thought it possible for Humax to do something similar with their EPG? |

There are much more important updates we would like from Humax. I keep looking at this thread "New firmware update freesat" hoping for news but now I seem to read about someone who cannot remember two three digit numbers.

Currently I have to repeat the process. As a new HDR user, my point is just as valid as the "more important" issues that have already been covered in multiple threads. |

This drives us absolutely nuts in our household, there is no reason I can think of for the box to have to constantly re-update the EPG every time the guide button is pressed. If they can just fix this, I will be very happy

I've had to delete 103, because the wife keeps going to this channel instead of 119. It certainly put a stop to her using the SD stream. However, until ITV sort out their channel number for the HD stream, they are demoted to the third (or is it fourth) page of channels.
It will be even worse when BBC1HD arrives unless they let us choose them as one of the 101 and 103 alternative channels. |
