Good news about recording the buffer and the power cut issue even though Id never had a problem myself.

I wish theyd let us cut recording but it looks as if those 2 things will be the final differences before they move onto a new PVR.

Oh yes! Finally the power cut bug is being fixed.

I wonder if its just the usual main firmware being updated or whether the boot loader firmware will also require updating? I'm sure that was the main reason given as to why the power cut bug was not easily fixable.

It's fixing some little features it should have had from the off. When are we going to get an update to give us some features/abilities we really want?!

My bugbear is the uncertainty of the "Pause" functionality. If that is fixed It'll be a fantastic box. So much so, I'll buy a second one!

(It doesn't really bother me but the other Hillels are a fussy lot. )

I doubt very much that any further features will be added to the current model.Anything new will be in the soon to be launched new model.

Personally I have had the current model since it was launched, and have found it to be an excellent piece of equipment!!

That really needs to be fixed when the program ends bcause if youre watching anything on the bbc, the pause button is useless. You have no chance to catch up.

I've had the box about 15 months and I too have not run into this issue in that time. It's luck though since before then we had two or three power cuts in the previous year.

Naturally, now that I've written this we'll get another one!

I believe Bob_Cat also confirmed that. Bug fixes only.

Ditto, although I don't have anything else to compare it with, as I've never had one before.

My view is that it's not perfect but these forums keep me aware of the shortcomings so that I'm not surprised by them - and it does the basics that I want it to do in a good enough way.

seconded, is there anything in the freesat spec that prevents ftp access?

iirc other humax stb's had ftp access in the past, and presumably since the code already exists it wouldn't be a huge job to add it to the foxsat hdr

I know OTA updates need to be scheduled/aranged but it would be very nice if it were to appear on the website first - now that power cut season is about to arrive.

Because that would be awesome marketing wouldn't it - "buy our product now, and if you have a powercut it'll need manually rebooting before it records anything; of course at some point in the future we'll sort it our for you by means of an update - but for now, buy it."

I don't see your point - OTA updates need to be scheduled - website updates don't.

I think you maybe - appearances can be deceptive or perhaps you cleaned your glasses - any scheduled OTA updates will appear on this website:

I think it was my TV. I think my Sony TV decided to default all of its display settings. In movie mode which is what my TV was left in from the night before the dark greys had become black and the sharpness was almost non existant. In the TVs general mode which I used for normal everyday viewing everything developed a green tinge. So it looks like my TV gave my freesat menus a new darker, soft focus look

For me the pause bug is the biggest problem I face when using day-to-day.
If I need to pause to answer the phone, I usually miss the end of the programme!

Also the slowdown/lag caused by the background preview loading on the epg needs fixing. I know I can press 'schedule' then 'red' to overcome the problem, so it should be a quick fix for Humax.

Other than those 2 things, I have no issues

The pause is not caused by the background preview loading it's because the tuner that is showing the video is required to download a whole new epg. Schedule/red displays the existing buffered epg so there is no delay.

Instead of pressing pause press record. When you come back pick up the recording from the media list, you won't lose the end no matter how many times you pause/record/fast forward while viewing the recording

Can't it be changed so that when in dual feed mode the other input is the one required to pull new EPG listings? Or better still, for the box to pull new EPG listings automatically in the background every 12 hours or so using the second feed if recordings aren't scheduled? The current method is rather cumbersome.

When you enter the guide it does use both the tuners. Try entering when you are recording - It can't do the EPG update.
Pulling in the EPG every 12 hours would make the AUTO recording setting useless.
Perhaps Humax would have got less flack over this if they never displayed the background.

So why does it use both tuners when it only needs 1?

It should be able to update while youre recording 1 thing.

There's no need to do this the epg is constantly updated by data transmitted on the broadcast transponders anyway whenever it's turned on. I never use guide and have never had a problem with the epg being out of date.

As the guide gets renewed overnight as part of the housekeeping any changes more than 24hrs away will be picked up and short term changes by the constant trickle charge there is little chance of a problem

I've never had a problem with it being out of date either, but if the guide is trickeled down from all the transponders anyway, why does it need to receive listings every time the guide is accessed essentially closing both tuners down to update the listings when very litle or nothing will be updated by this? Seems such a waste and offputting when your listning to something in the background or half watching something and it goes off just to pull some listings down it doesn't really have to do.

Are the listings not stored on a small portion of the HDD anyway like on a Sky+HD box for faster access? Sky don't have to cut the picture or sound every time you press Guide, so it's a bit annoying it does on a Humax.
