I've never had a problem with it being out of date either, but if the guide is trickeled down from all the transponders anyway, why does it need to receive listings every time the guide is accessed essentially closing both tuners down to update the listings when very litle or nothing will be updated by this? Seems such a waste and offputting when your listning to something in the background or half watching something and it goes off just to pull some listings down it doesn't really have to do.

Are the listings not stored on a small portion of the HDD anyway like on a Sky+HD box for faster access? Sky don't have to cut the picture or sound every time you press Guide, so it's a bit annoying it does on a Humax.
As I said before schedule and then red displays the buffered epg instantly no matter if the box is recording or not

The pause is not caused by the background preview loading it's because the tuner that is showing the video is required to download a whole new epg.
I don't believe this is the case as it also pauses when simply watching an already recorded programme which needs no tuner at all

There is no pause on mine if you press guide while viewing a recording. it just loads the buffered epg instantly

Are you sure you have the latest firmware ?

Latest firmware is V1.00.13 - 13 Jan 2010.

Latest loader 7.53 but unless you use diseqc switching that should not matter (afaik).

Very strange .

In any case it's definite a tuner is required for a new guide it's transmitted from the freesat home transponder on Eurobird 1 (11426 H) together with the ITV-HD red button service

You may as well update the loader first (via USB) from Humax's site.

Ok, new loader and reset appears to have cured that issue... Thanks

One other thing no one else seems to have mentioned... will there ever be an update to incorporate the accurate recording signal into a watch timer?

I can't get the loader to update via usb stick.

I put the file on to the usb stick in the root directory, put it in the humax usb port, turn it off and then turn it on again while keeping the standby button pressed, but it doesn't do anything.

What am I doing wrong?

Does it have exactly the right name - it's case dependant!

I think it's been reported previously that some USB sticks didn't work. Try a different one maybe..

The 2 files are named:-

FOXSAT-HDR_upgrade_10013.hdf

FOXSAT-HDR_upgrade_U7_53.hdf

I put both in the root directory of the usb stick.

I've tried all the sticks I have.

You did not read the download instructions.

2. Change the file name to “FOXSAT-HDR_upgrade.hdf”.

Note: If updating the Loader and Application software you will need to carry out 2 downloads in any order.

If the download does not start then there may be a compatibility issue with the USB memory stick you are using. We recommend using memory sticks of under 1Gb in size.

Thanks but I've tried changing the file name.

The smallest usb stick I have is 1gb, so it looks like I'll have to try to get a smaller one.

Thanks for the advice.

If you insert the usb stick after the box is powered up do you get the USB Device inserted message [Can't recall exactly what it says] and if so can you see the files with file manager?

p.s. think it has to be the fount usb socket.

Yes all the usb sticks I have work for file transfers and are in the front usb socket.

Edit: Well I don't know what I did different but it has worked.

Cheers. I now have the 7.53 loader.

Don't worry too much about the size of the usb stick, many forum members including myself used 2Gb and greater. just try a different one.

Thanks it just worked with a 8gb stick. I think it was the file name change or perhaps I stopped pressing the standby button at the right time.

Some larger memory sticks have exotic hidden partitions on them which confuses the simple boot loader mechanism. While the media menu can often see the disk the boot loader is more basic.

For those few disks that don't work low level formatting of a flash disk has always allowed me to use it for updating but this is not always practical for users.

One minor change I would like to see is...
... When channels are unavailable due to recording, a clearer 'greyed out' colour in the EPG.
My old 9200T was much clearer. The Foxsat has a very slight colour difference in the font on the channel, but I really have to concentrate to detect the difference.

Reading the link posted earlier to PVR Junction, it looks like Humax will be adding media streaming to their Freeview T2 PVR. It's something I'd love to see added to the Foxsat HDR too.

I've owned a Humax Freesat+ PVR since it first came out and have been very pleased with it, however I'd like to be able to stream programs from it to other Freesat boxes elsewhere in the house. I've got a telly in the kitchen and one in the bedroom and have been waiting to see if Humax would offer this functionality before deciding what Freesat decoders to buy to put in each of these rooms.

If they offered streaming in a firmware upgrade to the Foxsat HDR I'd happily buy other Humax receivers for the other rooms to enable this functionality and I'm sure I'm not alone. By the sounds of it, however, it doesn't seem like this is coming in the update this month which will be a big disappointment. I may have to buy a couple of cheap and cheerful Freesat boxes for these other rooms instead. I really hope I'm wrong, though, and the update offers this kind of feature; I'm sure that it would generate lots of extra sales for Humax from the many people who must be in a similar position to me.

Humax... are you listening?

Humax indicated too much work to get streaming going on the HDR lower spec CPU - even if true no excuse for not enabling FTP at least to get recordings off the HDR. If FTP isn't added then highly unlikely that my next box will have Humax written on the front as thats just taking the Michael.
