No - actually you are incorrect, they announced that the OTA will be late October, see below extract from email sent by Graham North of Humax on 15th October. I think the wording is quite clear "Software updates will be broadcasting ...late October". So where is our firmware available for download the week before ?
Indeed, however the original announcement was ambiguous, and could have meant the update or the announcement was due late October, but the 15/10/2010 email did clarify that it would be the update.

What's the big stress with everyone desperate to know when it will be released? It isn't like the box is currently unusable. Simply enable auto update and sleep easy knowing that you will get it as soon as the OTA update is released.

From someone who's suffered 3 power failures in the last month, I can't wait for this update. I don't even live in a rural area, but we've always had several failures per year over the past 40 years.

I'm rural so the power glitch fix is an important one for me.

I'm not stressing over the update, just merely asking for news on an update that humax are mass mailshotting about. If Bob says "we found a small issue, give us a few weeks to fully test" them I'm happy with that, as pointed out by a prior post the box is very stable and I certainly don't want to jeopardise that.

... If Bob says the next update will enable network transfer, e.g. FTP, then he can wait until summer for release...

Recording from the buffer will be a worthwhile update for me.

I have a theory I can't wait to try out

If you set a watch reservation for Say ITV1-HD and pad it front and back and set real recordings for BBC-HD and BBC1-HD I reckon there's a good chance you could record the ITV1-HD after the two BBC recordings have finished.

One thing I miss from my 9200T is the ability to use the back button to go to the previous channel. It only works on the HDR for a couple of seconds, after which you're stuck on the current channel!

Now that would be a really useful one that I'd like too...

Press the ibutton (info button) once and then press the back button. Anytime the iplate is showing the back button works to shuffle back and forth between the two last channels.

Wow! You're right! It works! I never knew that! However, it would be nice if it didn't require the extra button push and the iPlate all over the screen

It's fast approaching the end of October now... any news on the latest update for the HDR? Any news would be good - good or bad.

Apparently the Freeview HD update is provisionally scheduled for 3-5th November so hopefully the HDR will be then too.

I had the update newsletter/e-mail from Humax yesterday notifying the imminent appearance of BBC1 HD and the firmware update broadcast schedule for November, no mention at all of the Foxsat HDR.

I would have thought not, a company would be foolish to issue upgrades to two different platforms on the same day, say it all went wrong for both platforms

Thank God for that.

I wouldn't want to risk bricking my box over the holidays.

Is the new firmware going to have 'Record from buffer'?

If so how will it work? Will it only save from the last channel change or will you be able to specify how far back you want to save? E.g. I hour or 2 hours back?

I would imagine it would save data from the later of the last channel change or the last programme change.

It couldn't save from further back than the last channel change.

Think it would be a case if the box records an hour from the buffer say you put on only fools and horses and say its been on for 35 minutes and start to record it it will record the 35 minutes you have missed, looking forward to the update just for this its been long overdue.

It can only do that if it was turned on and was displaying the channel that OFAH was showing on.

This facility seems to be purely for people who:

a) Leave their box fully on whilst unattended and come in and find a programme that they wanted to record (but have forgotten to set) is showing.

b) Watch a programme live and suddenly think they'd like to record it.

I don't think I've ever wanted this facility and I'm wondering if some people are expecting the impossible from it - i.e. if they switch to a channel which is showing a programme they expect the box to magically record the part of the programme they missed. It certainly sounds like that from some of the comments.

The main reason I would like buffer recording is when you are watching something live and something important or interesting happens and you want to save it.

Especially on a news programme or live tv.

This one fits what I've done before with the 9200T. Start watching something and realise another family member might like it and so record the whole thing.

Yes, a killer app.
I have used this many times for my friend on a 9200, I was astounded when the HDR would not do it.
