The Accidental Thread.

Sorry for the ambiguous title.

What I'm asking is has anyone else been going about your ordinary everyday lives and heard a piece of music that makes you stop and and go WOW! that's brilliant, I wonder what it is?

It happened to me this weekend. I was in New Look with the wife and daughter (hell on earth normally) when a song started playing over the shops sound system and I was mesmerised by it, I must have looked like one of the dummies in the shop.

Anyway once home a bit of scratching around youtube gave me the answer it turned out to be Miike Snow and the song Silvia.

Totally opportune incident but it gave me a track that will be up there in my favourites forever.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Yep it's happened to me a few times, I've discovered several new artists that way. I discovered Sophie Ellis Bextor's music in Woolies in 2002 when I heard Murder on the Dancefloor playing. I thought it was a very catchy song and had never heard it before. Of course this was before Youtube so I had to ask them in the shop what the song was and they found me the CD single and from then on I became a fan.

My wife was watching the BBC drama "Dive" earlier tonight, & there were a couple of "contemporary classical" pieces which were heavily used on the soundtrack.

I really liked them, but didn't know what they were... So I ran "Shazam" on my phone, & it IDd each one just like that:

Max Richter - Vladimir's Blues

&

Max Richter - The Nature of Daylight

I ended up going straight to iTunes & bought the album: The Blue Notebooks.

Joni Mitchell - Both Sides Now was playing in the background in Love Actually when Karen has just found out that Harry might have cheated on her with Mia. She desperately wants to cry and has to hold it together. Love the scene and have loved the song since. Not too keen on her original version of the song. The movie one is way better.

Bat For Lashes - What's A Girl To Do?

I heard it and I loved it. It took me ages finding out what it was because back then no one knew her. I am so pleased I found out, though.

It's rare that I go to that much effort after hearing a song.

I discovered Jessie J. on youtube by accident and have been loving hearing her sing since. I saw her video of her singing "Mama's Knows Best" and thought it was excellent.

Flicking through the channels and discovered some blonde girl who reminded me of Tasha bedingfield singing something about "what would my mama do". I don't seem the tasha bedingfield comparison anymore now. But i looked her up and her name was Pixie Lott. Within a week, i had every demo and cover verison she had done and have been a huge fan since. It was only about two months later that Mama do was actually released and made number 1 so i was way ahead people.

Discovered Volbeat when tuning through my radio and catching a German radio station.

Been a fan for two years now and going to see them live in December.
