Just finished Season 8 of Castle.

I really had intended to take the advice of the many people on here and elsewhere who said not to bother watching the last season, but I discovered that I have something of a compulsive need to finish watching a series if I know that episodes exist, however bad or otherwise it might be. I didn't like the way that one of the story arcs was executed (though I didn't think it was a bad idea in theory) and I didn't think that the final season as a whole was anywhere near as good as the other 7 seasons, but I didn't completely hate it either.

Yes I've seen all the episodes now, but I ordered it yesterday. £38.75.
My DVD player won't play Blu-Ray.
I was previously getting my fix, with this. I was sad when Winona was written out towards the end of the series only to return in the final scene. Not the conclusion for which some might have hoped. But I was glad that Ava was happy with her new life.

Is anyone able to suggest a TV show for me at all? Really struggling to find one to get into lately. Some of my favourite shows include the likes of Six Feet Under, Twin Peaks, The Good Wife and loads others. I like a mixture of strong characters that make up a good ensemble. I'm usually drawn to a couple of strong female characters as well.

Keep trying loads of different shows and find I like some of them but can't seem to get completely gripped. Have been looking into maybe trying The Wire, Bloodline of Rectify recently, don't know if anyone can recommend any of those or any other suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Well two of us have mentioned "Justified." Definitely a "man's detective drama."

I'd also recommend "Jesse Stone," which was recently shown on C5 (again) with the exception of one episode which was probably considered a bit too distressing for daytime viewing. But it's rather expensive.
I recorded all the episodes as I watched them (again) and last week on a rainy day, I spent more than half a day watching them all again. Can't come much more highly recommended than that.

Although it's very much a genre show, American Horror Story is a terrific ensemble show that utilises female characters EXTREMELY well. Real forces of nature Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett going at each other. On that level it's often quite sublime, that's if you can handle the gore of course. Otherwise, season 2 of Fargo has a very dymamic ensemble, as does People vs. O.J. Simpson that has a can't-take-your-eyes-away turn from John Travolta. As both of these series only have 10 episodes, the drama is often heightened and more intense, which might be something you'd enjoy.

If you enjoy female characters though, perhaps try comedy? 30 Rock, Veep and Parks and Recreation all have stellar ensembles headed up by female characters.

Whatever you choose, Happy Binging!

as this US TV boxsets seems to pick up non US and non UK boxsets, I can highly recommend The Bureau on Amazon Prime. French, subtitles, spy drama, v well written and acted. Deals with contemporary issues (Algeria, Syria etc).

My favourite ever US boxset is Deadwood. I did like Justified as well, especially season 2.

Without having a clue what you might have already seen..........

here's some DVD/Blu-Ray Boxsets and series (cheaply available as separates on Amazon/elsewhere)

Everyone of them a Peach!

The Shield, Boardwalk Empire, Justified, Rescue Me (Brilliant), Homeland, The Wire (takes time and patience, subs and a rewind button, but its worth it), Person Of Interest, Line Of Duty (BBC), The Shadow Line (BBC)......Homicide Life On The Street, NYPD Blue, ER, and Band of Brothers (Epic!)

I've never seen Breaking Bad or The Sopranos......but they get acclaimed reviews

I'm sure there are many I have forgotten!

Death Note. Five episodes to go, at this point I just want to cross the finish line. What is it with these Anime series that they feel the need to make their series so ridiculously convoluted (not difficult to understand, but unnecessarily convoluted)

Seems like the right place to ask.

I adored Suits, good story with a bit of humour thrown in. Can anyone recommend anything similar?

Thanks

there's no non UK or non US TV thread on here but just to say if you like intelligent, contemporary spy drama and aren't phased by subtitles, The Bureau...I mentioned it before but am now just 3 episodes away from finishing season 2 and it is just outstanding.
Amazed that it sunk in under the radar so low that Amazon Prime haven't put it behind their pay wall. With a 3rd series to follow in 2017 I hope they both pick it up and keep making it free.
At last I get something great and free for my Prime sub!

Space 1999 season 1 Blu ray ( It has an excellent HD picture quality for a show that is 41 years old !)
That first season was one of the greatest TV series of the 70's - it looks stylish, had great (if often ending downbeat) storylines and they spent a fortune on each episode - it was the most expensive UK TV show of the time.

Just be prepared to let down by season 2, which descended into often farcical "monster of the week" episodes and even the highly attractive Catherine Schell couldn't save it
