My current wish list which I intend to hand out to relatives in the run up to Christmas:

1) 4th gen Ipod touch (if it has retina display and two cameras).
2) Freeview HD recording DVR
3) Playstation move
4) 10m-22m Canon camera lens
5) Steadicam Merlin (for cameras)

Whats your most wanted gadgets for the rest of 2010?

I am really tempted by the new Amazon Kindle 6'' 3G+WiFi, but I still did not convince myself that I really need it

I am hoping that the price cut will lead to the sony e-reader being reduced to a similar price, If so I may buy it.

4) 10m-22m Canon camera lens

I'll echo the lenses - I want a 10-20mm, a prime, a decent walkabout (ie. 18-200, or 18-250), and a larger zoom - something up to 400mm would be pretty useful. I've only got the kit lens (18-70) and a regular zoom (70-300 with macro), but could do with more.

Also, a lens on which the end doesn't rotate would be nice, as then I could finally make use of polarising filters.

But then I'm starting to consider a new DSLR with HD video recording, and unless Sony come out with something I can see Nikon getting some of my hard earned.

PRS 300 isn't that expensive even now and is much better than PRS 600 anyway.

I read that a new 1080p Nikon DSLR with autofocus is coming in the next few months. That said I love my Canon 550D, great video quality (http://vimeo.com/13236987). Superb picture quality with a good lens (18mp). Only negative is that there is no autofocus in movie mode.

Checked it out, a 5" display screen is too small for me.

Depends on what you read, it's great for novels, weighs nothing. PRS 600 looks like a great idea, touchscreen, dictonary, notes, etc. but the reflection of the display is very annoying.

You know you can order it and try it out and then if you feel you dont need it you can send it back within the first 30 days and get a full refund.

Wish is for a standardised dock socket on Android devices.
For a quick attachments to TV's etc.
Standard dock-pads would then materialise in various screen sizes.

Standardisation certainly won't happen but I do expect a phone to arrive shortly with an A-pad dock.

Thats the one thats tempting me.

I'd also be very tempted by the Sony NEX-3/NEX-5, if only they supported auto-focus on standard alpha mount lenses.

A friend has used a 5D (or 7D?) on some music video shoots, the quality is absolutely incredible, there's something about DSLR movies that tends to stand out above regular camcorder work.

The 550D is nicknamed the baby 7D, they have the exact same movie performance. The 7D can take more photos per second (8 versus 550D's 3.7) and has a better build quality (7D body has a Magnesium alloy body , while 550D has a steel and polycarbonate resin body). 7D has double the number of focus points of the 550D

However, the 7D is just to expensive for me, £1199 for the body alone at Jessops. 550D is £634 for body only.

The Sony Nex's picture quality isn't as good as the 550D according the review and footage I've seen. Importantly the 550D come with some impressive software, which the Sony doen't (i think).

Now thats where I'm not so sure - on the reviews I've sen the Nex is pretty equal to the 550D, although a lot of the differences will come down to personal preference.

I'm pretty sure my Alpha came with a bunch of software.

Never bothered with it though.

There are test on the Sony Nex on youtube by "DigitalRevcom" and reviews on 550D on youtube by DigitalRevcom and Cameralabs. They seem to know their stuff when it comes to Cameras.

Interested you mentioned this so I contacted Amazon to ask them...you can as long as you don't open/use/register it...see their reply:-

In general, you can return a new Kindle you purchased or received as a gift within 30 days of the day you received the shipment. The Kindle must be in new condition and returned with all the original packaging.

We cannot accept an item for return after it has been opened unless it is faulty - unopened items must remain with any seals and shrink wrap intact. Therefore, if you register the product to use it, we cannot accept the return.

I guess I'd be looking at the 20mm/F1.7 pancake lens for my Lumix G1. If I can get it past the wife

I'm tempted to buy a 4th gen Ipod touch but I mightn't have much money left as I'm buying a new laptop soon and need money for uni stuff. I'd love to upgrade my phone too, maybe a nice smartphone of some kind. Ah well, Christmas is coming (ok maybe too early to say that lol )
