You want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - for ever

Go back to the book, people ... Orwell wasn't a freakin' genius and soothsayer for nuthin' ...

What makes me laugh is FMs' mealthy-mouthed, cry-baby, hand-wringing whining and pouting now that the programme has finally delivered ... this is what we were always promised ... an insight to the idiocies of hominids when faced with the consequences of their petty game-playing and clumsy emotional manoeuvering ... that's a bunch of *adults* in there ... old enough to cope with or not cope with the sh!tstorms they magic up ... no sympathy, no quarter ... let them all stew ...

And I'll tell you this ... whatever half-assed response Ch4 take and no matter what self-righteous posturing we see in the rest of the meejah ... this is the shape of things to come ... lots more stamping, lots more conflict ... AND WHY NOT!? ... it's educational, godammit ... this is a lesson to us all ... finally Ch4 is fulfilling its public service brief ... chuck in more wine & beer ... a bottle of scotch ... tequila ... demonstrate to us what all those University degree courses & A Levels & "Life Experiences" are actually good for ... i.e. NADA! ... quit grizzling, ya babies, bring it on ...

What a long post...
It's worth pointing out at this point that the people with the best qualifications (Stu, Van, Ahmed, Dan) all mostly stayed out of the fight whereas the thickos (Em, Victor, Marco) weighed right in and spewed a torrent of abuse at each other...

Thanks for the insight woof woof.
George Orwell was of course writing about reality television.

I look forward to your insights on Room 101.

In case you're hard of thinking this post contains sarcasm.

I thought Orwell was writing about that show that Paul Merton presents on BBC2...?

Isn't Victor doing a degree in politics or something? That can't be an easy course, if Victor was a "thicko" surely he wouldn't have been able to do it.

I would say it was the people with the worst tempers who were in the thick of things - and Vanessa was certainly no innocent bystander.

I can see where he's coming from when he says this is delivery of what BB has always promised. Sad but true. Even going back to BB1 it could have gone this way. But didn't. Four times it didn't (although there were some very heated moments, e.g. Stuart / Amma and Jade / Adele bust-ups being the most shouting I can previously remember).

What does it teach us? That the more different people are, the less tolerant they tend to be? nd

I wish I could accredit Orwell solely but I knew it before even reading Orwell's totalitarian tome...
...the dystopic future has been here for a long time.

People just don't see it, or alternatively they live in denail - the latter is probably more truistic.

It's the stupid, aggressive and outspoken people who are (surprise, surprise) being stupid, aggressive and outspoken.

Who could have guessed? I'm personally dumbfounded...

What a crock. Standards of living are higher than ever before and we live in a golden age of unparalled prosperity, freedom from tyranny and safety.

The idea that we are in a dystopian (or even Cacotopian) nightmare society is just plain dumb.

To be fair to the dogster, reality television is one of the things that make me most ashamed to be human. The way the programme makers have manipulated things in order to creat as much tension as possible. (Anything for ratings eh you meeja hores?

I think Orwell was writing (in part) about the ways hominids choose to regulate others and regulate themselves ... and was pointing out the subliminated violence implicit in all that need to control and be controlled ... a violence with which we learn to live ... embrace even* ... my point (for the Kid is certainly a thinker) is that it's kind of humorous to see people coming over all faint when the control breaks down and the violence becomes manifest ... but, nonetheless, thanks for your *sarcasm* Mike, it was very, erm, illuminating ...
