At this moment in time, I would say Lady gaga more popular - but Beyonce has always been at the top of her game, and as someone said on another post - even if she did start to fall, she would still be hella' famous.

Madonna isn't anymore. When I say pop, I mean popular music. The sort of RnB music on the charts ARE popular music which Beyonce does so as Rihanna, Keri Hilson, Chris Brown etc...

I don't really agree that Beyoncé is an R&B singer. DIL was mainly R&B, but B'Day and IASF were more pop.

I think... at the moment, yes, but Beyoncé would still be massive even if she never had another hit single again IMO.

I agree.

Well Beyoncé is on a break right now so we do see a lot more of GaGa than we do of Bey.

Imo Lady GaGa's still got a long way to go to be ahead of Bey.

Beyonce's thing is consistency. She stayed at a really high level in terms of superstardom for over a decade, so even if she's not "no1", she's always there or thereabouts. She's never really fallen out of favour. At one point, you could have said Britney was bigger....but Beyonce overtook her, when Britney had some dips in popularity. GaGa is the big noise at the moment, but when she starts losing even a bit of popularity, Beyonce will be right there behind her, ready to pounce.

As long as Beyonce stays consistent, I fully expect that in 10 years time, she's more likely to still be a huge star than Gaga.

Beyonce is more hype imho whereas Lady Gaga is fun.

In terms of current popstars Lady Gaga is the only one who is in line with Madonna and its Madonna they all have to beat.

Well yeah, right now, Gaga has eclipsed everyone in pop. Nobody is really competing with her as an entire package, some may get more chart success and others may win more awards, but none are close to touching Gaga's superstardom.

However, Beyonce isn't going anywhere. She has so much success behind her that it doesn't make much difference how her new material charts, she'll still be Beyonce. When her star starts to fade, she'll still be held in high regard.

Obviously they aren't in the same league, but Madonna follows that pattern. She hasn't produced anything noteworthy for years, but because she's Madonna it automatically makes it worth paying attention to and it makes no difference whether it's a success or not. To a degree its the same with Britney.

It'll be really interesting to see what Madonna does next considering she's being out-Madonna'd. But thats off topic.

Completely disagree with this. American Life is some of her best work. It might not be to everyone's taste but its creative on a level most pop stars wouldn't dare venture into and Confessions is one of the best pop/dance albums of the last decade.

Whether Madonna is more `popular` or not, she is a legend so her popularity should not even matter because she is Madonna.

Those slating Madonna. Until Beyonce, Britney, Christina or Gaga produce an epic piece of work such as the Ray Of Light album they will NEVER touch her. Madonna is the greatest female pop star of all time. I doubt any of the four I listed will still be at the top of their game in 30 years time.

Confessions on a Dancefloor was out in 2005 but four of the singles came in 2006. I'd make that four years.

She might and probably will but it will be on a Diana Ross level.

Which is irrelevant, since I was talking about American Life.

How I see it is that Beyonce used to be the 'it' girl of pop music. She's now grown and matured and formed her own place in music, so is no longer the biggest 'it girl' style popstar, but more of an artist and will definitely be remembered of this generation.

Lady Gaga is in her element, and her Rihanna GGGB phase. She looks set to also have a great career, but (as much as I love her, too) I doubt her next album will be as big, purely because The Fame sold too high amounts to live up to. I think as she is the new one, she is more popular or seen as a phenomenon right now, but I have no doubt that Beyonce will be a future 'legend' type singer from our generation, whereas it is too soon to tell with Gaga.

Why do people always have to mention Madonna on threads like this, Beyonce, Lady GaGa etc. Are all in a different league, Madonna is without a doubt the greatest female pop star ever and none of these will probably ever surpass her because Madonna has done everything they have a thousand times better.

Lady Gaga's biggest problem now is proving she can last beyond four albums and continue her massive success without actually losing it.

With Beyonce and Madonna they didn't have instant success the way Gaga has. They worked their way up slowly. Gaga has had it all within a very short space of time so the only way for her is down, not up. That's her future problem.

First of all - and I do think this is important - Madonna CANNOT sing. I know that's irrelevant, but it feels good getting out there, 'y'know.

I think that they are about equal, tbh, I think who they appeal to and why is different, ultimately I think Gaga will be more successful but Beyonce more highly regarded.

I like both very much, but have a more of a soft spot for Beyonce because some of her vocals are just incredibly powerful, her lyrics often have so much feeling and emotion attached to them whereas Gaga - let's be honest - her songs are meaningless, utter nonsense. But they are damn fine pop songs she crafts.

Madonna doesn't have an amazing voice... but she uses what she has to the best of her ability and it wouldn't work any other way, and let's face it, that's never really held Britney back has it?
