A thread for The Libertines fans to discuss one of the best ever British bands.

I think Pete Doherty is a bit of a dick but I love The Libertines, especially their self titled album.

They came up with some classic songs, no doubt about it.

Some of their live performances were kinda shambolic, but that just added to the appeal - none of the polished but bland professionalism you see with so many acts these days!

My favourite band. Ever. Two sublime albums and a 'love' story to boot. Just divine.

Can't wait to see them at Reading at the end of the month.

Pete has a bad rep, but from personal experience, every time I've seen him live whether it be solo or with Babyshambles, he's put in an astounding, crowd-pleasing, soulful performance. He's one of my favourite lyricists and performers.

I've seen Carl play with Dirty Pretty Things and it's still one of my most memorable gigs. He has such a sexy voice. Wow.

Count me in- adore them (and also Dirty Pretty Things and Babyshambles) so they have spawned a lot.

Have produced some of my favourite songs of all time

I love The libertines. So much. I'm gutted I can't go to Reading though! I really wanted to go, but I am on bridesmaid duties at my cousins wedding that weekend. Gutted isn't the word.

Have to say I'm really looking forward to Carl's solo stuff.

This still gets played most weeks down our local indie club!

I was really disappointed with Babyshambles, though. I like F*ck Forever but the rest is mainly crap.

If you go to any indie club you'll hear a Livertines song - usually Can't Stand Me Now or Don't Look Back Into The Sun.

I just wish they lasted longer. I know they're "reformed" at the moment but that seems just for live special appearances? I wonder if they'll get back together properly because each of their side projects has been not-so-great.

I've heard they are writing new material, I know Carl has wrote stuff for a solo album too. It's about time someone saved the British music scene if you ask me and The Libetines might just be the ones to do it

Yes, all we need now is Oasis to reform. Show shit like Scouting For Shite how it's really done.

Oasis can stay away. They've been and gone (they had a decent career lasting over 15 years and 7 albums, or 10 if you count the compilation ones).

The Libertines went prematurely with only 2 albums and lasting only around a 2 - 3 year career (they didn't release anything prior to 2002 and split up in 2004).

We need some kick back into music. Everything is so watered down these days it's often hard to tell who the band is. Scouting For Girls and all those garbage tweeny appealing bands annoy me.

If The Libertines come back I'll be pleased, because that on top of Skunk Anansie's return will be awesome \ , , /

Fantastic track, in my favourite 3 libertines track.

They were and hopefully will still be a fantastic band.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZrWuw3ZAXI, somebody in the comments for the video says "its just a performance surrounded by love and hate", how true......

I never knew Carl opened that song I used to listen to it on a daily basis, as well!

Never seen such an emotional performance, you can really feel the tension in that vid, it's actually pretty sad, Pete looks close to tears to me.

I know right? I'd like to see JLS try and do a performance like that. One that comes from the heart.

That one kinda tears me up a bit. Carl just looks so sad You can tell he's really missing Pete in that one.

Its missing pete in all so many ways, they bounce off one another, although its a good performance he looks quite alone

edit : jls who ?

Just Little Shits, I presume

And JustBoy, that above performance, it reminds me of one of the very last performances of Live Forever by Oasis, last year. At the beginning, Noel just started crying. It was so sad

EDIT: Here it is, and it isn't at the beginning he starts crying, it's about 1:53

I am a Oasis fan, mostly the early stuff but a fan non the less.

Liam was never the greatest singer, in fact I preferred songs sung by Noel and his accustic session he did for MTV was fantastic. I will listen to any song sung by Noel.

That video that you posted, liam was terrible, shouting most of the words, seems out of breath, not sure if Noel thought then and there, this is crap and started to weep because of it .

They absolute changed by perception of music when I was about 18.

Up until that point, "indie" music from this country was in my eyes dull as dishwater bands like Travis and Embrace.

I spend a weekend in Camden the summer after I left high school and came back home thinking it was the best thing ever. For me they totally sum up that period of my life. Interestingly, "indie music" in this country is in a similarly poor state to what it was just before the Libs broke through. Alas what we need is a new band to shake things up like they did, not them back again.

Good memories though!

I know, his voice just wasn't cutting the mustard in that particular performance, but I still love Liam. I can't have a bad word against, i just can't.

I think Noel may have been crying because he knew the end was nigh for Oasis, and they weren't gonna live forever

Either that, or, call me crazy, but I have a theory. Maybe Noel actually wrote the song about Liam (if you look at the lyrics, it would fit), and Liam just never realised, even though he was singing it, and Noel was crying because they hate each other now?

And there ends my psychological mind reading attempt

What a sad sad video, Liam sounds terrible these days. Really looking forward to Noel's solo record and an er....optimistic about Beady Eye.

Anyway about The Libertines, Up The Bracket is a quality album, and the follow up has it's moments but is definitely a little step down.
good band tho.

best song

No way! Some of the Babyshambles tracks are really good. There's 'Albion', 'UnBiloTitled', 'Lost Art of Murder', 'Love You But You're Green' to name but a few. I think they churned out two decent albums and an excellent EP. Maybe not in the same league as the two Libs albums, but pretty great nonetheless.

I loved the down in albion when it was first released but over time I've listened to it less and less.

I saw babyshambles a good few years ago now at the barrowlands which was a wonderful gig, still no libs but, frankly, who is?

Didn't get a ticket for the London warm up gig btw. Gutted.
