My older sister kept playing Simple Minds when I was a kid and I was convinced it was "I Love Her Cooking" and loved to sing along

Up until recently,I had a mate who thought erstwhile Cockney legend Mike Reid invented Fairy Liquid...

Why?

Well, ever since he was a kid,he'd sing along to the ad jingle...

"Now hands that do dishes can feel soft as your face with Mike Reid's Fairy Liquid...."

I heard this song the other day when the singer sung ' I'm made of scones'
Turns out he was saying 'made of scars'. I thought it sounded a bit peculiar.

I always knew that it was "talk" but, if you imagine it as such, it does sound like "f*ck" at times.

Oops I didn't imagine it as that though as I knew it was "talk". I looked up the lyrics and I've been playing a lot recently (though my ipod only tells me I played it 18 times since I bought it. I'm sure I played it more than that )

when i was a kid i thought alanis morisette sang
'you've already run me over'

made sense with her going 'head over feet' and all that

actual lyrics - you've already won me over.

Bryan Adams /DJ Sammy - Heaven:

I thought the opening line was "Oh thinking about how young he is" for ages. It's obviously "...thinking about all our younger years".

Pink - Raise Your Glass:

I thought she was singing " Party crasher, fanny snatcher" until very recently, I learned it was "penny snatcher". And yes fanny means a different word in America so it didn't seem wrong to me.

Me too.

Every time I listen to David Guetta - Turn Me On I hear 'I just want you to fart on my young'.

Gotye - when he sings "You didn't have to cut me off" in "Somebody that I used to Know",
I thought he sang "suck" instead of "cut".

I always wondered as a kid why they never censored in YMCA, the line - you can do what the f*ck you feel.
Turns out it's actually - you can do whatever you feel.

The first time he sings the line it sounds more like my version.
Plus my version is easier to sing. I can't help but do it now.

Lutricia McNeal - Stranded

My Mum used to sing "I don't want to feel like I'm strangled"....she tends to sing most songs completely different to how they are written, she claims that they changed the lyrics not her

I honestly thought Nicki Minaj was saying "like a shola-shan" on Starships.
I would sing along that too, even though it didnt make sense!

Of course I now realise that she says "like it's you last chance"

My own is Englishman In New York by Sting. I thought it was "I'm a little alien" for years, until I realised it was "illegal".

One that always sticks in my mind is someone apparantly thought Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus actually contained the lyric "retarded f**k face" instead of "reach out and touch faith". I was never 100% sure if this was true or just made up, but I still now can't listen without hearing the misheard lyrics.

'She Drives me Crazy' by Fine Young Cannibals.

When I was a kid, I used to think it was 'She drives me crazy/That long, white hair! instead of 'She drives me crazy/Like no one else

I still think of that every time I hear it!

"There's a bathroom on the right"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BmEGm-mraE (at 0:34)

"The ants are my friends, 's blowing in the wind"

Made me laugh. Lol. Also, regarding the thread, I found that many people wondered what Rihanna was singing in some part of Only Girl. "I want you to love me like a hot ride/pie"... Nobody ever knew what she was singing.

I always thought she was singing that too! Well "at night" rather than good night. The "good" certainly explains why it can be misheard. I think that was done deliberately, the minx!!

Another misheard lyric

"you're the Wizard of Oz"
Real lyric "you're the one that I want"

Well who can tell when they're singing it so fast?

And Staying Alive
"We can try to understand the new york santafectami"

Now I have no idea what I thought a new york santafectami was but that's what it sounded like when it was in fact:

"how New York times affect a man"

From "He'll have to go"
I had know idea what a jukebox was when I was a nipper and thought the lyric was jewbar not jukebox.

I won't tell you what I thought this lyric was
"My Sunny once shined so sincere"

"Golden brown texture like sun. Lays me down, with my mind she runs"

Misheard as MAN not mind

Well let's face it with lyrics like that it could have been anything! Hot dog jumping frog??? That's their I am the Walrus phase I'm guessing.

I'm not going to be able to listen to these songs now without thinking of the alternative lyrics
In particular Guns N Roses "stop that knocking on Kevin's door"
Queen "save him his life from his pork sausages"
Billy Ocean "go and get stuffed"
Depeche Mode "retarded f**k face"

This whole thread reminds me of Jumpin' Jack Flash with Whoopi Goldberg trying to decipher the lyrics of said song and saying "Mick Mick, Speak English!"
