Buffalo Stance by Neneh Cherry.

Line is "who's lookin good today/who's lookin good in every way/no style rookie", I seriously thought she was singing "No Sara Keays".

Sara Keays was (in)famous for having an affair with the Conservative government minister Cecil Parkinson, so I thought it was some sort of political comment that Neneh Cherry wasn't going to do politicians or something.... or that she was better looking than the dowdy SK!

Got a few more to add to this thread (am always thinking of more)

Busted - What I Go To School For

Misheard "That's what I go to school for, even though it isn't real boy"
Real "That's what I go to school for, even though it is a real bore"

Gwen Stefani - What You Waiting For?

Misheard "Your hair it sure could curl"
Real "You Harajuku girls"

Anyone got any more?

REM- The sidewinder Sleeps Tonight

Misheard: Calling Chad Baker
Actual: Call me when you try to wake her up. call me when you try to wake her

In fairness that song is a bugger to decipher

Gabrielle- Dreams

Misheard- Dreams Can Come True Look at me babe vaulpix and you (always thought it odd she was singing about pokemon in 93)
Actual- dreams can come true look at me babe I'm with you.

I'm constantly discovering misheard lyrics of my own tbh. Most recent:

Jam - Eton Rifles

Always thought the line "then went to bed with a charming young thing" was "then went to bed with a child at your feet."

Abba - Dancing Queen

Thought "you can dance, you can jive" was "you can dance, you can dine."
Thought "looking out for another, anyone will do" was "looking out for a lover, anyone will do."

If you've not seen Peter Kay's misheard lyrics, give it a watch.

When discussing misheard lyrics it helps to get the original line correct! Last week on the BBC London Breakfast show Paul Ross mentioned the often-heard 'pork sausages' line from Bohemian Rhapsody and said "In fact it's pomposities". Er, no it's not Paul, it's actually "Spare him his life from this monstrosity"!

The Simpsons - Do The Bartman

Actual lyrics: I'm the kid that made delinquency an art.

Misheard lyrics: I'm the kid that they only can see in art.

Well, that's what I thought the lyrics were aged 10!!!

Frankie Goes To Hollywood, "Rage Hard". For years, I heard

"I don't know which way to go
Oh, My love's like German snow"

making me think Holly Johnson was caught in a Berlin blizzard.

It was actually "driven snow".

The annoying happy by pharrell I keep thinking he's saying "crap along" instead of "clap along" well it does kinda sound like that...

Haim: "Falling". I thought they were singing
"Fear and desire, feeling tired, hungry too"
instead of "Feeling desire, feeling tired, hungry too".

So the sisters weren't giving a homage to Stanley Kubrick....

Taylor Swift - Blank Space
"Look at all those Starbucks lovers, they'll tell you I'm insane"

I thought it was product placement gone mad

I'm not sure if I've posted thIs one here or another thread of the same topic.

I always believed Sharleen Spiteri was singing "I'm not eating mincemeat, some things you just can't ignore" rather than "I'll never be in between
Some things you just can't ignore" in the Texas song In Our Lifetime.

Always thought it was a strange way to let the world know you're a veggie

I always thought that at the run-out to The Beatles' Rain, John Lennon was singing "beranowanurashingawooo"

For decades, I couldn't work out what was the second part of this line of a song by Dusty Springfield

"You don't have to say you love me, just be close at hand."
It was not until I'd accidentally come across the music in a piano song book, that I realised what it was.

I thought for years she was singing 'just because of him' maybe referring to a dad putting pressure on the relationship

Another one is Bandages by Hot Hot Heat - I thought they were sing jellied eels instead of bandages and Lauren Laverne once said on Xfm she thought they were singing 'bag of chips'

On the song Hey Now by London Grammar the part is 'Hey now, letters burning by my bed for you
Hey now, leave it to the wayside like you do, for you'
But I swear the last 'for you' sounds like the singer says 'f.uck you'.

I like my version a bit better gives some attitude to it.

In David Bowie's Ashes to Ashes, the lyric "But no smoking pistol" often sounds like "But no smoking ****ed off".

Considering how much music I've lodged in my lobes over the years, I could fill half of DS with my poorly-deciphered lyrics, by everyone from System of a Down ("Grandmother should put on little makeup") through to Pixie Lott ("I'm letting go of the hood") - indeed, either or both of those may have already been mentioned in this long-burning thread...

I've always heard it as "I don't mean to fanny you off"

DIdo - White Flag. Thought "I will go down with fishes..." was always a strange line! (it is of course "the ship", but that's how I heard it.)

Busta Rhymes ft. Janet Jackson - What's It Gonna Be:

I thought I herd "gonna pee on you and you on me" when it was "gonna be me on you and you on me"

Ollie and Jerry - Theres no stopping us
When it came out in the 80's i thought the opening line was..
"out in the street, you don't survive the heat"
A friend heard me singing this and told me i was saying the wrong words and it was actually "out in the street, you don't survive by pee wee" I said they were crazy.. 'pee wee' why would he sing that? makes no sense..but i listened closer with headphones and realised he wasn't saying anything like the word heat, and it did sound a lot like he was saying pee wee. Thought that was a bit odd and couldn't be right, but i couldn't make out what else it could be..skip forward 20 years and i heard the song and decided to check the lyrics online..and it turns out it's actually..
"out in the street, you don't survive by being weak" seems so obvious now.
Though i will still continue to sing pee wee when i hear it .

That is a weird one as most people thought it was "I will go down with this sh*t"
