I was shocked (and impressed) that they managed to get a contestant to sing Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen (albeit in a changed key and slowed down!).

Although I have to say I found Meatloaf just as annoying as Bruno and will always resent any programme which unleashed Katherine Jenkins on us on a regular basis...

Help, I just came back to this thread after a couple of days and seem to have wandered into an alterntative Strictly universe with knitted Ronaldos in it

Now if I had ot think of ANYONE on Strictly who was knitted, the word "Anton" springs immediately to mind - anyone else agree?

yes, maybe Meatloaf was a bit annoying but I do think, generally, that there were no unpleasant comments made to to the contestants

sorry about that, it was completely off topic
but I love singing as much as I love dancing and Rolando was a revelation to me

I agree with you about Anton though, he's a very *knitted* sort of person

Oh, yes, I agree.

EDIT: And they really had some opportunities to be nasty, too!

Ooh! If it is, then maybe that means we won't be copying the DWTS opening credits. Hoorah.

It looks more classy and classic, now if they can translate that across to the actual programme we will be in business.

Wow, it looks so much more classy compared to the old logo.

The new producers seem to be working their magic.

Let's just hope that they don't run out of magic when it comes to the show itself.

Don't like it - cheap looking 3D writing zwooshing around reminds me of bad Powerpoint presentations, and WHERE'S THE PINK? WAS IT NOT ENOUGH TO GET RID OF IAN AND MATTHEW, YOU BASTARDS?!

Hey Monkseal! I agree : A. bring back the pink!!! B. total bastards for getting rid of Matthew and Ian.

Mind you ... remember the curse of the pink dress? Would quite like one of those this year. Makes losing your favourite marginally more bearable when you can blame it on something as spurious as a pink frock. Except both of my faves are already lost (blub ...)

I'd also quite like Claudia to bring back the dance machine - prefaced every week by repeat footage of Lilia's reaction last year. Happy days ....

I think they should bring back the Dance Machine with Lilia as the voice of it, so we can all just pretend it ate her, and that's why she left.

Lilia's reaction to her dance machine score still ranks as one of the funniest SCD moments ever!

I think you might have just hit on an excellent new thread topic for all of us who are still smarting at the BEST people being sacked ....

Would cheer us all up. Actually, does anyone know if there's a Youtube link to that bit of ITT (Lilia's reaction)?

And Ian saying Jodie would produce her breast ... it wasn't so much him saying it, it was him and Jodie completely cracking up afterwards while poor Claud tried to keep a straight face and wrap up the show.

I think, however, the fact that particularly with Bruce there seems to be an equal number of people who think he's good as there are who... don't (and you can count me in the latter here) means that I'm not sure it's clear cut that they're wasting license fee money. Alesha, on the other hand is probably less easy to defend on this score if we're basing it on a pay:audience reaction - although I don't believe we know what she's actually paid?

(Personally I think that whatever they're paying Bruce, Tess and Bruno is far too much if it's above minimum wage, but that's just my own preferences showing! )”

You called me Ignazio - that sounded very stern!

As the years take their toll it is clear Bruce won't improve, so whilst there are those who regard him as a national treasure, I'd have thought they would prefer him to retire gracefully than get to the stage where Tess has to carry him on stage. As the clock ticks on that becomes more and more likely.

I was never a Brucie fan, although in the past I could understand the admiration of some for his versatility, but now it's got to the point where his presence on the show makes me cringe.

Last season the best of the series for me was the week he was ill - despite the similarly God awful Ronnie C.

Even with a paycut he is still being paid £550,000 for series 8: value for money - I think not.

I believe that Alesha is the highest paid judge. Her earnings are reputed to be £100,000 per series.

Clearly this was offered when the beeb thought she was SCD's answer to X Factor's Cheryl Cole. She didn't deliver a bigger audience so why is she being retained?

I show my preferences all the time - and why not?

Meatloaf was the panel equivalent of Bruno - jumping out of his seat with every critique he made. I found it slightly more bearable if I muted the sound - but I think you are being a little harsh on Katherine. She's no Von Stade or Bartoli, but she doesn't pretend to be. She's a mezzo who sings classical arias: and whilst I'm of the opinion that she could not sustain an operatic role for 2 hours I think she's been instrumental in bringing classical music to a wider audience.

I know she polarises opinion but I'll venture she could fill a concert hall a damned sight faster than Bruce.

I know she's a fan of Strictly and has expressed an interested in appearing - now that could be intriguing. I'd also like to see Charlotte Church.

Aw, 'Naz, you know I couldn't be stern if I tried!

I don't suppose I can really argue with much of what you've said, but I think I'll always give the Beeb the benefit of the doubt simply because I like it better than the other channels!

Re: Katherine - I just don't like her as a performer. I've never been a massive fan of the classical mezzo voice anyway, and I don't even think she's an especially good one (her breathing and diction especially grate on me). Having said that, I agree that she has done a lot to make the world of operatic and classical music more accessible - I would just have rather the ambassador had been someone I liked! Obviously, I'm sure she's lovely and she's certainly got a better voice than I have. I am also extremely picky, so it's probably more my fault than hers!

I can't find Lilia and the Machine, but Jodie produces her breast at 6:18 or so of this.
