She's quite inarticulate and lacking in social skills.
Her educational shortcomings are obvious from her inability to understand fairly simple words (seen when reading out laminates and asking questions like "What does comeuppance mean?")
She is emotionally immature - witness her running around the bedsit when informed she and Michelle were going back into the house - she looked like a 6-year old on Christmas morning.
Again, I question C4 / Endemol's motives in putting someone like her in the house when she's clearly not equipped to deal with conflict appropriately.

I'm not defending Victor, BTW, he didn't help the situation, and he's clearly intelligent enough to know better, but he has his own insecurities (hence his need to act tough), which is a shame, because when he lets his guard down he's actually quite funny.”

They should use this post to end this ridiculous subject once and for all.

I am really fed up with people who are obsessed with the fact that Emma MAY be racist. I live near Wolverhampton which is in the Black Country. I can be refered to as a Black Countryman. Should I specify that I am a white Black Countryman and should people of African Origen say they are black Black Countrymen. Emma, her family and all her friends of ethnic origen all state that she is not racist. Victor has never said she is a racist. That should be good enough and the end of the issue.

couldnt work it out.

If she is racist ?

is this what provoked victor??

Someone help me sort this out! ”

I have to take issue with the term 'Alpha Males' being applied to Victor and Jason - their inadequacies are obvious and this term should only be used facetiously/sarcastically in relation to either of them. That said, I can understand why they were both wound up by Emma's behaviour. However, the way to deal with this would have been to deny her the response she desired - they would have shown real 'alpha' behaviour by ignoring her (like a minor irritation). The mere fact that after a few taunts from Emma their tempers erupted so swiftly and aggressively made them look like real losers and encouraged her to escalate the conflict.

Emma needs some help and I don't feel that it would be wise to let her remain - for her own sake. She had obviously lost out in the education stakes and is deeply emotionally affected by this. Her ignorance, racism? and appalling social skills have made her a laughing stock - and I believe it would be cruel to let her return to the house simply for the amusement of viewers - we're talking about real human lives here (I know she chose to apply for the show, but it obviously wasn't a properly informed choice.) I think its a debate worth having.

Not just about Victor but also Ahmed

and reactions towards him

Dan blaming him not not washing up on his "culture"

"I believe when in Rome ...etc "

These stereotypes creep out of course theyre not all NF but these prejusices come out in many forms

Well, lets look at a range of insults that could be thrown:

You black bastard
You white bastard

You little bastard
You tall bastard

You fat bastard
You thin bastard

You bald bastard
You hirsute bastard

The first one in each pair "works" - it sounds like a credible insult, and is the sort of thing you frequently hear. The second of each pair doesn't work, and you'd only ever hear it in an ironic capacity.

The reason why the first set work is that all the adjectives are derogatory (at least in the eyes of the insulter).

But this is a bit beside the point: under no pressure, not in the heat of the moment but in relaxed circumstances, gloating over the first of Victor's cold showers, she called him "N******", why being fully aware of (see the conversation on the first night) the offensiveness of the word.

I'd agree she should not have been in there.

My Nan (may she rest in peace) used to use the word nig*er as a general term - if someone had accused her of being racist she would have been well offended - it's all about ignorance of the history of the word rather than racism I feel.

That's cool. But Emma knew that the word was offensive.

how can you so decisively reach that conclusion?

would you agree that there is a black/gangsta/ghetto stereotype?

would you agree that Victor has been pretty much playing out that stereotype to some extent?

and its partly what has been pissing off emma?

and they've really fallen out?

so it is in fact perfectly plausible that when she said what she did, she was referring to the fact that Victor is playing out that stereotype, and not simply to the fact that he is black, or that she thinks all black men have the same negative characteristics?

isn't even slightly possible, or are you judging her, based on very little, virtually no taking into account of context, that she is a racist, and thats it end of story?

Iain

PS is there a reason people are still starting threads on this when there are already 824 others exactly the same?

What about

You dumb bastard
or lets change that to
You dumb bitch

Now....whats the difference between
You dumb bitch
and
You black bastard

I'm not racist, but I can't see why the first would be allowed and the second wouldln't in normal society.

except if there was a typically *white* stereotype comparable to the black gangsta stereotype, and jason was playing up such a stereotype of course.

then she may well have of course.

i didn't follow any of that original post. well i did, but i wasn't sure what the point was.

was it *you black bastard* is offensive, therefore emma is a racist? sounds crazy, but then not that much more crazy than a lot of other stuff.

I tend to think that she isnt necessarily racist but more inarticulate. I suspect she meant to say that he was acting like a stereotype but I doubt she even knows the word exists, much less be able to pronounce it. Poor communication can give the impression of racism and I feel that is what is at the root of the problem.
