Aguilera forced to play weddings
Quote:
Christina Aguilera has been forced to accept private gigs at weddings and Bar Mitzvahs following the cancellation of her US tour and poor sales of her album 'Bionic', according to reports. More here: http://uk.news.launch.yahoo.com/dyna...ml&e=l_news_dm'Bionic' was critically panned and flopped in the UK where it became the lowest-selling number one album for eight years and soon dropped out of the charts. The disc fared little better elsewhere and failed to reach the gold and platinum certifications of her previous releases. I can't believe the Bionic era is really that bad! I still haven't listened to the album, and am rather afraid to because I've really liked Christina's other stuff. It's a shame to see her success topple like this. Hopefully her Burlesque movie might be good enough to restore her some glory. |

The thing is, in my opinion it's not exactly a bad album. Its just as if people are saying it is, even before it was released. Minimal promotion aswell. Its like it was supposed to be a dud.

Christina sung at weddings/events before. I defy you to find a singer who hasn't done a paid appearance at some point. It's an easy way of generating big income with little effort.
I'd hardly describe 'Bionic' as critically panned either. It was mixed to good generally, I don't remember reading many purely negative reviews. In fact it seemed like generally they were optimistic. |

It got a few good reviews, and a few negative, but mostly they were average - in a disappointed way
http://apps.metacritic.com/music/art...ristina/bionic It really is a shame, because despite Bionic being very hit/miss...when it 'hit', it was actually really good. It's far better than people give it credit for, there's a lot of just sheeply following the general consensus...which was definitely 'CHRISTINA IS A FLOP, SHE RIPPED OF GAGA, THE MUSIC IS SHIT' lead by the incredibly unbiased Perez. Ah well. Not the end of the world, it takes more than a flopped album to bring down someone on Christina's level. Makes me laugh that people think she's being "forced" into doing these events, as if she's living on the breadline. She's one of the most successful artists of the decade, one of the richest women in music...I don't think she's struggling THAT much. |

Many artists are happy to play private gigs, on condition a price is met. There was a list floating around a short time ago detailing the biggest known earners.Verrico, Lisa. Why music stars are playing private parties, The Sunday Times. June 1, 2008. |

This is bullcr*p. However, I did read on a website a few weeks back that if the price is right..all singers are entitled to sing at weddings, apparently Mariah Carey did it for 2 milion as did Shakira.
Back to 'bionic', i love it. There are no bad songs (okay 'sex for breakfast' was pretty dire but yeah). I'd say it was a 7/10 album. |

Yeah, Whitney has been doing private gigs for years.
If people are willing to pay a million, who's going to say no? |

Bionic had some good songs, but there was just no hit material. The album itself wasn't too bad, except for a few songs. It could easily be cut down to a good 12 track album. It just needed a smash hit and it would have sold well.

Loads of singers have done private gigs. It's no big deal and I doubt she was 'forced' to do them. She's not exactly bankrupt.

I loved Bionic.
Though I loved Sugababes' Sweet 7 so maybe my opinion is irrelevant |

This story is bull
![]() ![]() Haters will buy it, but she's not doing anything that she hasn't done before. With Burlesque coming out she is in no need of money - she was even out buying Ferrari's the other day!

Unless Christina has a massive gambling problem or badly invested her money then I doubt she is forced to do anything.
People need to get over Bionic. Shes not the first person to release an album that under performed and she wont be the last. If she gets off her ass and promotes a bit she'll turn it around |

It's like if something doesn't do well , people think "well it must of been crap to bomb" and sometimes it's not always whether it was a bad album or not. |

I read that Christina was offered over 4 million for her to play three tracks at someone's wedding!
By eck, i'd sing the whole of the beatles catalogue for that!Good on her I say and I know Mariah has done private weddings/parties etc for some dosh so why not I say. Also means your not stuck up I guess to go and put yourself out for some 'randomer' but at that price who is to say no ![]() RE 'bionic' I reckon the only hit could have been 'vanity' as it's catchy but removing the swearing content would have put the song down a notch and wouldn't have worked. |

Tbf most artists these days play private events.
And the main problem with Bionic is that it is very different from how we were told it would sound. Also, "Not Myself Tonight" is an absolutely horrific song, and would have put people off I'd imagine. |

In all honesty it sounds like something everyone would really buy except like people on these forums
Her selling point is her voice, and not myself tonight could have been released by any number of tuneless wannabes. |

Monday Morning is the most commercial song on the album, she should have released that. Then maybe Elastic Love, Little Dreamer or Birds Of Prey, and one or two of the ballads. |
