Looking for New Music
I've been talking with friends and only seem to like some music like the Arctic Monkeys, Blur and the Gorillaz etc, but I also like older music like the Beatles, Paul McCartney and the Who, mainly due to my parents.
All my friends like rap music, indie music and stuff like that, but they like my music too and actually like my older stuff. Well, what i'm asking you all is, can you recommend some music for me to listen to, to broaden my horizons, any genre (except Jazz ), any age etc. PerfectPeter.

Check out the Rare 60's Classics thread:
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s....php?t=1267243 You might find something, maybe an act or a style of music, that tickles your fancy on there. |

Well, since you like the Beatles, the Who and Paul McCartney much like myself
i'd recommend the Kinks, the Rolling Stones, Supertramp, John Lennon, George Harrison, 10CC, etcIn terms of indie music, there are lots, go on Spotify and look at the recommended artists for the Arctic Monkeys for instance, the Last of the Shadow Puppets, Vampire Weekend and Barenaked Ladies are all good. You might also like, if you like alternative music Coldplay or Keane, or even Muse and the Foo Fighters, although I don't like those two myself. Prog rock's also very good, try Yes, Electric Light Orchestra, Genesis and Pink Floyd, they're all good if you like that type, but it's quite a marmite type of music, you either love it or you hate it. Then you have classical, I like a bit of Holst myself, the planets are great. Erm, in terms of heavy metal, I don;t care for it much but Led Zeppelin are one of my favourites, listen to Led Zeppelin IV its fantastic or their best of Mothership. I can't help you much for rap or any urban music like that, as I don't like it...mainly because I don't get the appeal. Sorry...

I'm really into music 'before my time' if you will, as well
![]() Bowie, The Smiths/Morrissey's solo stuff, OMD, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Human League, Ultravox, T-Rex, Blondie, New Order, and Joy Division are among my favourite artists. I'd recommend them all.

Minus The Bear - Planet Of Ice Punk La Dispute - Somewhere At The Bottom Of The River Between Vega And Altair Say Anything - Is A Real Boy... Say Anything - Say Anything Metal Converge - Jane Doe Some of these can be quite hard to listen to first time, they take some time getting used to. Also, if you Indie with a little bit of folk, and fantastic lyrics, seriously check out Ted Leo and the Pharmacists.
The track I usually recommend is Me and Mia. and that goes for everyone in this thread, it's a crime that these guys aren't bigger. |

haha I thought that too, the first couple of times. But now it's gotten to the point where I think I'm in love with it's depressing-ness. It's just the raw emotion that gets me hooked
![]() Now I love the weirdness.
