Reccomend me some Rock / Metal
Im getting back into my rock & metal after a 20 odd year hiatus (probably because of rock band / guitar hero) and need some new music.
Please can you reccomed me the best album by your favourite rock / metal band from the last 20 years. Anything that has screeching / growly vocals is out, and anything that insists on 1000bpm double drumming (apart from anything involving Miker Portnoy). To give you an idea of the stuff i do like- Aerosmith (night in the ruts / toys in the attic), Metallica (Black / ....and justice for all), Motley Crue (Shout at the deil / grls), ACDC (back in black), Cinderella (Long cold winter), GnR (Appetite), NiN, marylin manson. Ive just found Dream Theater, and bought the new Avenged 7x album on that basis which i am liking, Steel Panther (who cant help but like their 80's tribute style vulgarities), Airbourne, Rammstein, I dont like Slayer, megadeth, deftones, lamb of god, anthrax - but if I am really missing a work of art by any of these, please reccomend it. Thank

You're almost spoilt for choice I think!!
![]() From your list of likes I would suggest the following, some are better known that others! Tool Audrey Horne Katatonia Delain Lacuna Coil The Union The Answer Blackstone Cherry Touchstone The Reasoning Down All of these are bands based on musicianship rather than noise, but fit your criteria of not being @ 100 MPH and all have "clean" vocals. Enjoy!! |

You might enjoy a bit of Alexisonfire, have a listen to 44 calibre love letter. Its quite marmite but based on your previous likes I think you could possibly enjoy it, if you can get past the scremo esque vocals.

Agree with most of the choices Glawster posted, especially The Answer, but can't help noticing...you left out Iron Maiden?!
![]() Easily one of the greatest metal acts ever, and just released a superb new album. I'll also recommend: Skid Row (Especially 'Slave To The Grind') Trouble (Sometimes wrongly called 'The Trouble' on various download sites, such as Amazon) Black Label Society Alestorm (Bit of a comedy 'pirate metal' act) Heaven And Hell (Unfortunately now disbanded due to the tragic death of Dio) Megadeth (An acquired taste) Wolfmother Alter Bridge ('Blackbird' in particular) Volbeat (Imagine Metallica with Elvis as vocalist...) Based on your post I have to say you have quite similar tastes to me, as I don't like stuff with growling/screaming either. I know you said you didn't like Slayer, but - and I say this as someone who isn't actually a Slayer fan - their South Of Heaven album is an essential listen. Very melodic but technical and heavy at the same time, it's a superb album if you're not a fan of their more extreme thrash style. |

Oh, and just noticed your previous post. Here's a rough guide to the band's genres I posted:
Skid Row - GN'R style hard-rock with a metal twist Trouble - Early work best described as 'doom metal', like Black Sabbath's self-titled album. Later work is a bit faster, more classic-rock orientated Black Label Society - Heavy-metal, led by Zakk Wylde (Ozzy's former guitarist) on vocals and lead guitar Heaven And Hell - Black Sabbath with Dio on vocals, but slower than their work as Black Sabbath with Dio, if that makes sense lol Megadeth - Thrash metal, later work (from Countdown To Extinction onwards) more melodic but not as good Wolfmother - Led Zeppelin/Deep Purple/Black Sabbath hybrid Alter Bridge - Post-grunge but with great vocals |

I think you'll love Porcupine Tree - In Absentia. Sort of a hybrid of genres but is pretty much rock all the way.
I don't really know much metal without screechy growly vocals so I can't rec you anything from there. |

I was going to suggest Porcupine Tree, also possibly Blue October
The Wildhearts are a fun rock band. Vendetta (especially I Executioner) World Is Static (a little bit like Lacuna Coil, who have been mentioned) Ted Leo and The Pharmacists Volbeat (going to see these in December!) Fury In The Slaughterhouse Bit of wide range of rock there. |

![]() Easily one of the greatest metal acts ever, and just released a superb new album. ![]() I agree with you about the new album, it is very, very good!! I'm terrible at labelling bands, but here goes... Tool - My favourite band. I'd say progressive metal, but very intense at times. Audrey Horne - Just got in to these, a Norwegian band, think Stone Temple pilots and then some. I think they could be huge. Katatonia - Another scandinavian band, Black Sabbath influencies, very melodic Delain - European synfonic metal Lacuna Coil - European synfonic metal The Union - A new classic rock inspired band featuring Luke morley from Thunder The Answer - Really good Irish hard rock band, suppoerted AC/DC on theit last tour Blackstone Cherry - Southern Rock inspired band Touchstone - British progressive influenced band, very highly thought of by the likes of Classic Rock's Geoff Barton The Reasoning - Very loosely similar to Touchstone Down - Southern Rock influenced "supergroup" featuring people from American bands such as Pantera |

As Daisy said she was getting back in to Rock/Metal after a 20 year gap I took Maiden as a given.

I think symphonic metal is just metal that has classical/orchestra qualities and tends to be quite progressive.

Ah - that makes sense - doh! well - i like that kind of sound (dream theater type music?)
For a Maiden you might like, I'd say Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son... Death/black metal tends to be the more screamy growly vocals, these days. If you like Dream Theater then Porcupine Tree should be high on the list. Doom is very, very slow and very heavy, bands like Candlemass |

![]() thanks for all the suggestions from everyone! the only thing is im not loaded and im dont want to download stuff for free these days. So can you please suggest one key album from as many bands as you like that you think i would like please? on another note - i mentioned earlier I liked Airbourne and i have tickets for the 10th, and I also liked Helloween (keeper of the 7 keys part 2!) - well I just saw the headliners for Hard Rock Hell in Prestatyn in December - and its both them! ARGH! will have to try and find £160 from somewhere.... oh yeah - even though its cheesy - i love a song with a load of "Woahs" and "Yeahs" in them! |

Okay, so it's by no means a recent album, but have you heard
The Crimson Idol by W.A.S.P. One of my very favourite albums. You should check it out! Also, another +1 for Wolfmother here. |
